Poll Are most games these days REALLY worth $60 to you? (60 votes)

Yep. 10%
Nope. 90%

I'm goona say it. NOPE! NOPE. NOPE. NOPE. NOPE.

I don't give a crap how long and hard it is to make video games. I don't care how expensive it is. If a game sucks, or is subpar, that's just it. Just because you worked hours and hours on a game doesn't mean your game is worth $60 to me. I bet the devs worked hard on Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom, (Not hard enough, unfortunately), are those games worth $60?

Now...Some games are worth $60, IMO. I'd pay $60...no, even over $100 for Zelda U. Some games are just worth more to some people than others. I can live with that.

I just can justify paying $60 for games like cOD, Assassin's Creed, GTA, and others...I just...There just...Meh.

Nope, that's why I play them for $1 a week thanks to the industry leading PS4.

Nope. Though I can argue that $60 today is definitely cheaper than $60 in 2005 when the trend started.

$60 games have to do something I'm really interested in for me to purchase at that price. Right now I've got such a large game library of unplayed games on Steam, it's really hard for me to justify picking up a new $60 title when I can just fire up Steam and download a game I have already purchased but haven't played yet.

I'm sure it's a bit different for console owners who do not have a gaming PC. I know I did purchase a few $60 games recently for my Xbox One and PS4, but I was sure to take advantage of Targets Buy 2 Get 1 sale so I really didn't pay full price for all of them.

Some games are worth $60 to me. I bought Elite Dangerous at $75 and I've paid roughly $150 for Star Citizen. I'm just not going to go out and buy every new FPS on the market for $60. I've got plenty of them and I highly doubt the new one is going to keep my interest for long enough for me to justify that $60.

No, they aren't, which is why I very rarely buy a game at full price. some are, though, but I almost always wait for a price drop.

There are few games I will pay a full $60 for. Last year I had a resolution to cut back on purchasing games at full price and release, and while I missed out on a lot this year I found time for other games I had to get through. And then I ended up getting a lot of the games for a much cheaper price around the holidays. In the end, definitely worth it.

It's going to be more difficult to do this year as there are a lot more games releasing that I'm passionate about, but I'll probably cut back and wait for deals to hit on many of them as well just to continue my trend.

Nope. Buying a new game for $60 when there are plenty of fantastic ones out there for <$15 makes little sense. Especially as the latter are fully patched and comes with all the content.

There's worse things one can spend 60 bucks on than a quality game. I just recently bought Bayonetta 2 for 60 bucks. It was worth every penny.

Are most games worth $60 to me? No, but that doesn't mean they aren't worth that money to someone else. My opinion on a product doesn't devalue it.

As an example, last night I played MGS Ground Zero for the first time to see if I could get back into the series. It was kinda fun and I plan to buy MGS V now because of it, but I'll be waiting for a price drop. Others will hold the game as being worth more than $60 and may opt to buy a collector's edition.

I generally state that "yes" it is a good Price, and yes alot of games are worth it. Infact most of the games I own I consider being worth 0 at launch, even those I did not get till later.

Does it mean that there is no trend to release broken piles of PR bullshit, that can barely pass as a game? Sure, a rising trend. But since I can only comment on the games I buy, it is a "yes"

Just going to lay Down that I have not gotten an Activision or Ubisoft game in atleast 4 years (with the sole exception of Black Flag). Let alone at launch, that does help abit.

I still find plenty of games made where you can feel the love that the Devs put into it. Ask me in a few years and I might well state "no" but atleast for now I consider the majority to still be worth it (but on decline).

No, but then again I rarely pay 60 bucks for a game anymore. 45 is probably the most I ever pay anymore.

There is the odd game I end up playing for hundreds of hours (coh2 being the most recent example) that I probably got more than 60 dollars worth from.

Last game I bought full price was STALKER: Call of Pripyat (was $30 or $35). Before that was Crysis (the first one) and I only paid about $4 (taxes) for it after I used a $50 gift card.

I don't buy games full price since I don't get time to play them right away...plus I'm cheap; I usually spend $15 or less on games after they've been on for 6+ months and the price has dropped. I generally don't see most games worth the $50+ price tag.

When you compare it to the games that were released in the 90's that costs $60 you're actually getting better value for your money.

It happens 3 months after a game releases... I have the patience to wait. Unfortunately the industry drives on consumerist hype and disregards "out-dated" artifacts.

I disagree with the idea that every new game should release at $60. It's wrong, but this place is proof enough why companies decide to do it.

Gamers tend to de-value games that release at less than $60. Treating them as some sort of sub-standard product that can't contain the production or gameplay values of a $60 retail game.

No, but that isn't really because there's anything wrong with most games. It's more because that there are so many good options these days that I can rarely justify paying $60 for a game when there's so much great stuff selling for less.

there are very very few games that i will pay full price for. this year itll be witcher 3 and X. i cant think of anything else.

it would be nice of publishers broke up their game a bit more though.

e.g. i would love a compilation of all the SP campaigns from COD. i couldnt care less about the MP...just gimme the SP. its good mindless action :D. all the SP for 40 bucks..good stuff.

i would like to have an option to buy less of treasure tracker. i like the idea but 20 levels or so for less money would be more interesting to me. i dont want to pay full whack. i dont care how many levels are in it as i will probably never play all of them. just give me an option to buy more later if i so choose.

why does MP and SP have to be in the one package? why do i have to pay for 100 levels in a puzzle game when i only want 20?

Couldn't tell you, the only game I've bought in years for full price was Hyrule Warriors. I usually just wait for them in price because most of them do, and some pretty quickly.

No. New games are shallow and only thing "AAA" about them is marketing. Most new games shouldn't cost more than 30 dollars. However there are few games that are complete package and can be priced at 60dollars. Starcraft 2 was one of these games (full fledged single players with extremely high production values, multiplayer, e-sports elements, skirmish mode, fully implemented tutorials, map editor and so on) or upcoming Star Citizen.

I have bought loads of games, but only in rare cases have I ever spent 60 euro on a game.

I either: Buy the PC version of a multiplat when its cheaper, look around for a cheaper price or a store that offers a discount or the best solution of them all: just wait.

And when the trend for AAA-blockbuster titles is not even giving you a full experience for a full price, with all their preorder and day 1 DLC, the decision to wait for a complete edition is even easier.

I pre-ordered the game for about 40 euros I think on Greenmangaming. But with all the DLC and expansions I bought since then I think I'll have spent over double as much on COH 2 now.

Some games are worth it to spend a lot of money on.

Depends on the game of course. Some games I get far more than my 60 bucks worth out of while some 60 dollar games shouldn't even be worth 5 bucks.

It's extremely rare that I drop 60 bucks on a game these days though.

You pay $11 to watch a 2 hour movie don't you? You pay a few bucks to go on the marry-go-round. Now how about a game that provides you with anywhere between 10 to 60 hours of entertainment? Plus multiplayer and replays.

Nope.

Even with an online multiplayer component it's not worth that much because, contrary to popular belief, that becomes repetitive just as fast as the sp.

Filler content doesn't raise the value of SP games either.

Few games in any day have been worth $60 for me. I got over they graphics hype pretty quickly so while games were "fun" I never found them particularly "impressive" and never cared to pay much for them. That's changed quite significantly in the past few years and accordingly I've bought more games a full price (or at higher prices than I usually pay).

It depends... Games like DA:I/MCC/Far Cry 4, have paid for themselves a few times over. Then you have games where i've struggled to finish them, much like AC: Unity.

I always research games I plan on buying. I want games that will last me a good few weeks or months. Only time I buy on impulse was on pre owned games some worth it others not so much. Game are like 40-45 in uk though depends on where you shop some places are a ripoff.

1) I generally don't spend that much on movies. Sure, OCCASIONALLY I do, but I also occasionally buy a $60 video game. Point being, it's not really something I do often. Why don't I do that more often? For the same reason that I don't buy $60 video games more often. There are enough options nowadays that there's always a bunch of quality content available for dirt cheap. So, by being a little patient, I can usually end up watching/playing what I want at a fraction of the price at initial release.

2) Multiplayer doesn't matter much if you don't care about multiplayer (I don't). And replays are only relevant if it's something that I actually want to play again (most games...nope). Same thing with movies (though I'm clearly just talking about replayability).

Not saying that there's anything wrong with buying games new at $60. Hell, if anything I'm grateful that there are apparently a lot of people who still do this. I'm just saying that I don't do that. I don't get into multiplayer stuff, so I have zero incentive to buy games before the multiplayer community dies down. The only available reason left for me to buy games new at $60 is if I'm anticipating them so badly that I literally cannot wait to play them. And most games do not meet those criteria, EXACTLY like most movies don't either.

Of the hardware I currently own:

[PC:] I find $20-$30 is the sweet spot for larger games, but we're spoiled on PC with all the services competing to get every dollar they can from us. That and the fact most games that get a GOTY/Director's Cut/etc start fairly low on PC as well.

[3DS:] Most titles will be the same price throughout the generation unless bought used online. The sad thing is I find most DS/3DS games to be longer than the average console/PC game and have no issue spending $30-$40 on most of them.

[Vita/PS3:] $20-$25 seems to be the average price I tend to bite if I'm interested. Hard to judge what will go on PS+, but if I want it bad enough I'll buy it. PS3 doesn't really count as I've been able to find most games for $20 or less brand new as I bought mine during the current generation.

Overall $20-$30 seems to be a fair price to me whether it's retail price or on sale. Taking prices and inflation into account... games are cheaper than ever it would seem. Playing games primarily on PC over the years has ruined my concept of what value truly means as I can get the best games every year for under $10 in some cases. I do feel guilty while buying them cheap, but PC developers are all for it and encourage the deep discounts. I think 2014 was proof that many games aren't worth their $60 price tag as they turned out to be products of hype, completely broken at launch, and in some cases the marketing was flat out lies (Alien: CM fiasco).

Let's hope 2015 turns out to be better and that there are games that are more convincing that the asking price isn't a smack across the face.

You pay $11 to watch a 2 hour movie don't you? You pay a few bucks to go on the marry-go-round. Now how about a game that provides you with anywhere between 10 to 60 hours of entertainment? Plus multiplayer and replays.

There are people who pay $120 to watch a group of grown men throw a ball and tackle each other for 2-3 hours. I don't think $60 is a far cry for at least 10 hours of entertainment. Whether you choose to pay that much is up to you. But compared to other modes of entertainment, it's pretty fair I think.
