If it's a MMO, RTS, or an Indie Game I'd say it's pretty safe. But FPS and RPG exclusives are going to get slimmer and slimmer the more and more Micrsoft and Sony makes their consoles like "PCs."

The market will dictate where the revenue flows.
As long as the niche can support something, the niche will support something.
PC titles will always look better than their console counterparts. Happened with Crysis. Happened with Witcher 3. You can get ANY game on a console, with enough downgrades. As far as high quality exclusives? No idea. I do know though, that it's going to have more titles that were console exclusive since the consoles are going for x86.tagyhag
I have to continue to say this.... YES PCs if you pay enough, and if the PC game focuses on putting in the work will ALWAYS look better than console. THING IS the games will PLAY the SAME!!!
IT will be the SAME game-play. SAME game-mechanics, SAME level-design.... sure PCs will have super high REZ, and super high Filtering, and better graphics fidility. But once you get past that the game will be the same.
After viewing a super wow 1080P bluray movie on a high end Samsung TV, I felt the same way I felt playing a game (WOW in high rez) on a gaming rig. ITS GREAT and all but it did NOT change what I was playing or the movie I was watching. Avatar was still Avatar, even the 3D though it was slightly better did not change much from watching the DVD on an older TV that I have 720p 1994 (I think) glass tube TV.
IT has been STATED several times from Developers and publishers. It is not the technology that is stoping MMO's and many other PC exclusives it is Microsoft's and Sony's certification process that is a barrier to those games coming to Console.
Anyway, Looking at the PS4 I think, and PRAY that they change as this social focus would seem to demand it. As for Microsoft and Xbox Next its up in the air. I think it should be easy, but for Microsoft once they are able to carve their pound of cash out of people they tend to stick with it. But heres to hope.
The only place PC beats consoles in high quality exclusives are sims and strategy games, like Arma 3 and Rome 2. But its okay I don't think most people choose PC for the exclusives anyways

You forgot MMO and MOBA, practically the entire genre is exclusive to PC.... what console can boast it has 4 exclusive GENRES?
BTW: More people do Chose PC for those exclusives:: It has more gamers than any single console by a large margin.

It also gets more FPS, RPG, MOBA, MMOs, and, as of recently, far more Survival Horror games.
the only way an "exclusive" would be good for a developer is if it is "timed" The hardware company not only pays them a substantial amount of money to remain locked up, but they are able to then make money in other firms as well.
I'm trying to play Crysis now on my 360. The game controls like crap compared to the pc version, which I also own. I don't see how it is that gaming journalists can praise the game's controls so much when you can't even run properly without super running. The analog aiming is total garbage compared to the pc version. I try to run in there with armor mode on, and guns a blazing. I end up spraying bullets all over the place, and maybe actually hit my target with a couple of rounds!!! Contrast this with the pc version and keyboard and mouse, and it's clear that Crysis is far better on the pc simply for the superior controls. Halo is as close to perfect as analog gets, but when one game is a hit with analog aiming like Halo, and one is a miss like Crysis, it's plain to see that even if for superior controls, pc is the best place for games. The day that consoles truly start supporting keyboard and mouse is the day the pc looses its biggest advantage over consoles besides horsepower.Last gen I was all hyped to get me a decent gaming PC to go along with my console gaming hobby. Now back at begining of the gen there were all these AWESOME looking PC exclusive titles (crysis, Project Ego, Huxley ect) that made it worth my while to make the investment to get a good RIG during the generation there were more high quality exclusives that came out that we were told were only possible on PC (The witcher 2?)...
Fast foward and we are entering a new generation of systems and what happended? The vast majority of those games became vapor ware or were ported over to consoles. The biggest thing we heard from Hermits was that, "These weak consoles aren't capable of handling (x) PC game"
Guess what hermits, they did handle them: Crysis; (never on consoles said hermits), The Witcher 2; (True PC power a console couldn't do) and now Dioblo 3 and this is on super outdated 2005 hardware.

with current gen consoles (PS4 for example) being able to pull of games like KZSF and easily able port PC games with little to no diffrence from the best PC hardware...will PC exclusives become a thing of the past?
Thoughts?

For smaller games and indie games PC is still great for exclusives. For big games, naw PC is almost dead for big name exclusives.

I wouldn't call consolized pc games like crysis 3 with 90 percent of the same assets high quality..Can we cound multiplats Pc exclusives becasue the console versions almost always suck in comparison?
jimmyrussle117
I think that Sony with its MMOLGs, like Everquest, Planetside, Starwars... and that Sony had some experience with FF XI, and Mag, THEN look at how they said that Social gaming is the focus.
Then to me these(MMOG, multiplayer-games ) kinds of games (remember what (forget name) said when Diablo 3 was anounced for PS3/4 that Blizzard wants to come to console. (I expect all of their games to come if it works out well) will be part of that focus.
I can only PRAY that Sony now humbled by how PS3 sold FAR LESS than PS2, and with its more DEVELOPER friendly focus will bring FAR more PC games to PS4.

Hahaha. I just watched that episode recently. That red tape has its benefits. Enforcing standards platform-wide is key to a consistent user experience. Only Steam has been a ton more successful for the very reason that is flexible. Perfect? Hell no, there's instances of developers misleading customers and botching updates - from Towns to War Z; and Valve generally does act as an intermediary, as well as pushing the community feedback aspect to the front. But they're still not quite there. However it's not the digital wild west like on iOS or google play. It's a huge improvement then how things are handled in console space, which is a truly awful walled garden, and then the XBLA Indie channel, sigh, cesspit.

The market's large enough to support both models - a more open platform, and a curated one. I'd prefer the walled garden, but my preferences aren't everyone's.
I have a feeling Valve might be getting more into the blockbuster PC only franchises. They have a lot to gain, and little to lose by say, making Half Life 3 a PC exclusive.
Whatever money they'd lose from the consoles, they would make twice over from digital sales on PC.
Regardless, the GDC conferene alone says that most developers are developing for the PC, and we know the likes of Sega, Blizzard, Valve, EA are working on, and will continue to work on PC exclusive titles - many with large budgets. There are also several other develoeprs and smaller publishers sinking lots of money into PC exclusives like Star Citizen, Crytek with Warface, and Epic with their Unreal 4 engine PC exclusive title.
Will the consoles have more huge budget exclusives than PC? I think so. But the difference won't be huge. And PC will still beat the consoles in overall, high quality, highly rated exclusives. not only that, but as always, it will have the best version of multiplats, and multiplats will easily represent 95% of all next generation games.
Already, the Ubisoft CEO said that they are shifting away from console as the lead paltform, and focusing on PC (watch Dogs is the first game that will lead on PC), then dumbing down for the consoles.
- Arma 3
- Total War Rome 2
- Star Citizen
- GTR 3
- StarCraft II expansion
Nope, PC still is getting high-quality exclusives.
But if you mean the "high-budget, blockbuster" games, then yes, most of those are/will be multi-plats.
But it also comes down to what platform is centric, hence gets the best version.
Personally, I was never concerned with "PC to console" ports as I'm not a PC fanboy but just care about the quality of the game.
PC titles will always look better than their console counterparts.I'm guessing you mean Witcher 2?Happened with Crysis.
Happened with Witcher 3.

And I kind of agree about more multiplats, although I do know that it will work the other way: more PC titles will come to consoles.
Console exclusives may come to PC, but they will continue to be delayed/initially unannounced due to piracy.

Most exclusives will probably be 1st party titles. And if Gaikai allows streaming on PC, it wont matter

Problem is the walled garden is often bad for developers, from pricing models to exposure and cert costs. You can have a 'walled garden' that's more open and curated. Personally I like to see something that some sort of open democratised process as well as curating; mixture between Desura, Steam and whatever; that focuses more on pointing out and categorising titles effectively then putting barriers in the way. Interestingly enough Sony might be actually taking this quite seriously with the PS4 and their whole 99cents to 60 dollar downloadable games, which is a brilliant thing.

I'm only going to bring up the points i bolded:
1. cd red project never said Witcher 2 was impossible on consoles. Ask anyone who actually followed the game's development and they will tell you that the game has always been planned to be ported on the console. while console fanboys fight over which console has what exclusive;PC gamers only want more PC games that make use of their Rig...
2. Diablo 3 being announced on the PS3 must have really done a number on many of the cows oh this board. When the game was posted on this board many had no problems bashing it for it's artstyle saying it looked cartoony...but now all of a sudden you guys feel a battle was just won.
Truth is the only developer that console fanboys know develop for the PC are blizzard.
You know TC, technically you could port Cyrsis to the Wii. Doesn't mean it's the same game as on PC. If you think the people playing Crysis, TW2 or Skyrim on consoles played the same game the PC gamers did, you're deluding yourself. There's no comparison whatsoever.
I can see that being true for the big budget money devouring productions. Personally, I don't mind that being the case, because my reasons for loving the platform remain unaffected: choice, openness, and the face melting beauty of unconstrained IQ. AAllxxjjnn
Then why are you on System Wars?

:? you call it fanboyism but whos is it mine our yours? As I see it all I did was give an observation from my perspective and I stated facts to back me up. Hermits DID say that crysis wasn't possible on consoles and they also said the same for The witcher 2 when it first released (do you want to try to dispute that??????) They were wrong and both of those titles ended up multiplats on consoles.
If what I said makes you upset you need to take a chill pill. This is my persepctive, I didn't call hermit any names nor did I bash PC in any of my posts here so get a grip and take two steps back
casharmy
This pathetically biased perspective of yours is selective to suit your argument. Crysis and Witcher 2 cannot be done on these outdated consoles. At max settings. At the highest potential they can achieve on PC hardware.
Hermits, as well any human on Earth knows that they can be done on consoles if you downgrade the graphics enough. But the hermits spoke of these at settings similary of what can be achieved on their PC hardware.
I'm not angry, or upset, i'm just insulting your fanboy mind. I'm quite lenient with these towards you anyway, because you've written some good posts in the past, so i don't think you're an idiot.
What, does that automatically mean i'm angry at you? Don't worry, i'm smiling right now.
lol, I am going to be honest and say that I am actually suprised at the behavior of hermits considering my thoughts on the matter. For better of for worse I do beleive that this gen more than any other the PC exclusive line up will be spread across consoles...that was the basic idea behind my thread looking at how things turned out last gen with 360/PS3.
You say I'm biased, it's cool, I wont get mad that's just how you feel. I perfer consoles but my thread isn't really biased at all and I do welcome all perspectives on the matter (like RTS games still being big exclusives for PC?)
On the subject of the games I mentioned being "At max setting" lol that wan't the language at all...they said they couldn't be done PERIOD. Yeah it sounds stupid now and you are making a logical assessments saying that made certian cuts but you HAVE to do that now because those games are reality and fact. You (not specifically saying you it goes for anyone) can no longer say they can't be done on consoles, so you are forced to reason around those previous arguments.
Remember Hermits if a fanboy faction too. don't let that side get the better of you. I am sure I am not the only one who remember those arguments especially for crysis.
It didn't have to be the language. Games like CRYSIS couldn't be done on consoles and they weren't done on consoles. If such large concessions have to be made do you really think you're playing the same game? Quite large compromises were made to get crysis on consoles so when people said it couldn't be done on consoles they were right because it wasn't done on consoles. The fact that a stripped down version came out on consoles FURTHER PROVED this point. It didn't disprove it as you're pathetically trying to argue.
Console graphics/power right now are a JOKE, a FRIGGING JOKE, get it through your thick skulls. When you pop crysis into your console, you are NOT playing the same game so NO, it was NOT done on consoles. Neither were a lot of other games....you probably think you're playing the same Battlefield 3 too don't you?
multiplats are sometimes better than exclusives plus pc version has so much higher quality graphics it's like playing a new game if you only played the console version lol.
