The next generation consoles just don't appeal to me. Love my 360 but turned off by the xone. The ps4 has potential but at this very moment there is no big upgrade over the current generation. I'm no fanboy and will go where the gaming is good.

I'm thinking about getting a pc. I like the form factor of this alienware x51 and wondering how it compares to the xone and ps4 in power. Starts at $599. When you subtract the xbox live/psn price it's more like $549.

Thoughts?

Keep in mind that the Alienware x51 GPU is actually quite a lot weaker than PS4 GPU. And I'm not talking about optimalization etc., I'm talking about raw power. It will run multiplats much worse than the PS4.

Unless you really need that form factor for some reason, build your own.

Its probably half as powerful as the Ps4 and Xbox One. It should be able to handle all the games at at least high settings. Mostly high settings but some may need to be on medium. If you want the form factor then it is totally worth it. Its still a good value though. Your not paying too much extra compared to a custom build.

You're not getting much for your money and limiting upgradeability

An Alienware is never good value.

Not a good value. You probably won't be able to run multiplats in any decent manner two years down the road from now on. I mean - try running Crysis 3, Witcher 2 or Assassin's Creed 4 on a PC that is actually weaker than 360... you can't.

Alienware X51 = overpriced piece of crap

With the same money you can literally build a PC that perform 3 times better in games compared to the Alienware X51...

For that level of hardware, that thing is ridiculously overpriced. Also, the PS4 would blow that thing out of the water, and I'm a hermit.
