It wasn’t that long ago when Activision launched Call of Duty Ghost. The latest title to be added in the Call of Duty franchise was also among the launch titles for the next-gen consoles. While everybody is still busy playing them, the game developer is already commencing development for the next Call of Duty title.

Call of Duty is one of the most popular franchises around and is probably the best when it comes to first-person shooter games. The popularity bags profits for Activision and the franchise don’t look like stopping anytime soon. Just by looking at the series release pattern, the Call of Duty community is expecting the third Black Ops title coming this year.

On another note, Sledgehammer is still collaborating with Activision. The game developer is well known for creating Modern Warfare 3. There is a high chance that a fourth sequel to the Modern Warfare franchise is in developments.

Despite plenty of excitement and plans, there is no denying that Call of Duty games are losing its quality. One great example is that Call of Duty Ghosts failed to fully utilize the next-gen consoles’ capabilities. Fans are demanding for Activision to put their heart at work by making the best out of these consoles.

Aside from that, the latest Ghost series is expected to have a sequel. We can expect Ghosts 2 coming in the fourth-quarter of 2014. Other titles from Activision worth anticipating are Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, Destiny, Skylanders, Heartstone and World of Warcraft.

So potentially 3 COD games (But more likely 2) will be released this year?

So unlikely. We'll see Black Ops 3 or whatever this year and then Ghosts 2 next year. I'd be shocked to see 2 COD's this year. I feel that would cannabalize their own sales

Alrhough, I wish we could just get rid of Treyarch's yearly crapfest. I hate the way their COD games feel. The infinity ward ones always feel more responsive and they don't have the crappy target finder

They would have to buy a license to a current game engine. They dont have time to create one themselves to meet the yearly cycles.

Having both infinity ward and treyarch COD games come out the same year would only hurt sales. What they've been doing taking turns each year has worked out fine. Although Ghost flopped in both sales and reviews. Not to mention it runs on an outdated engine.

Given the poor sales of Ghosts compared to the rest of the series I expect this years game will do even worse. This year Titanfall will dominate throughout the year, and then by the end of it Halo will come out for the Xbox crowd.

I know that's only one platform but given that the biggest population for Call of Duty has been on Xbox I expect it to take a hit.

@Jakandsigz: I could care less about CoD games. I'm sure I'll still be playing Titanfall, Halo 5 & Destiny by the time those games come out. I'm also looking forward to D3: Repears of Souls for the PS4. Activision is so greedy. They'll milk the franchise to death.

Ghosts 2 is confirmed not guessed. only the Q4 is a guess.

Ghosts 2 is only "confirmed" because there's a shit twist at the end. It was the worst Call of Duty campaign they've ever done and I hope they don't make a sequel, same goes for Black Ops 3 as well, I'd rather see a World War 2 game than another semi futuristic snooze fest.

Bring me Black Ops 3, all I care about is zombies.

Treyach is the flag bearer for the COD franchise at the moment, like BlackOps2 makes MW3 and Ghost look stupid in comparison, not even just that Treyach seem to be the ballsy one when it comes to trying to switch up the formula as they took a gamble on Zombies (WAW), then Gun Game modes/Cod Points (BlackOps) and then the new story format, pick 10 system (BlackOps2)

I'm not into cod but I seen some kids at the store and they talk about the game like it's crack.

Call of Duty is a cancer to gaming.

Here's an idea, just build on the multiplayer experience. The COD: Ghosts campaign was beyond atrocious, so why waste resources on such a rushed single player experience

I'm thinking Titanfall, Halo 5, and Destiny will all put a dent into even more of the CoD sales this year.

lol 3 CODs will be overkill and split the consumer base because people wouldn't know what to buy.

It'll be Sledgehammer Games' COD this year and that's it.

I can't stress enough how much Infinity Ward's CoDs have been an absolute joke since CoD4. I actually don't mind Treyarch's Call of Duty's. IW hasn't done a thing but copy and past since 4 and in the case of Ghosts they copy pasted and then deleted some.

@lild1425: agreed on the whole. IW cannot hold a candle to Treyarch for call if duty games, and Ghosts was probably the worst call of duty of all time in my eyes.

There will probably only be one major CoD release in 2014 but it will be interesting to see if that will be from Treyarch or Sledgehammer

Treyarch CoD's are the ones worth buying. They actually seem to care about making it less bland.

GHOST 2 IS CONFIRMED SO NO unless sledge hammer is doing ghosts 2.

I know you can read. Confirmed for 2014. Everyone at the ACT forums had tons of thread locked due to the outrage of having two COD's come out instead of bringing back there other over 100 (no exaggeration) other IPS.

Once a New Black Ops or World At War comes out, then I'll get excited. Modern Warfare, Ghosts and all the Infinity Ward COD games do nothing for me.

I stay away from IW COD games. It's Treyarch only for me as far as COD goes.

I'm pretty excited to see Treyarch's next game but in all honesty, I'm pretty fed up with FPS's.

I don't think TC understands the leapfrog development plan they have going. To explain it to you TC, one studio typically works on a game for two years, and they have two studios working on different COD games at a time. When one game is finished and released, the other studio is halfway done with the game that will be released next year, and when that next game releases the studio that released before is working on a game to be released the year after that. Anyhow, we got Blops in 2012, so it'd make sense for Blops 3 for 2014. I doubt Sledgehammer is working on two COD games, I can see it being up in the air if they wanna go with Ghosts 2 or MW4 or something new entirely.

I doubt they'll release 2 COD games in the same year, Activision should know by now the dangers of oversaturating the market with their own game **cough-cough** Guitar Hero **cough-cough**. If they did by chance release two COD games the same year it's probably more likely to do with releasing a VITA exclusive or something for the iPad.

Why would they cannibalise their own franchise sales. Highly unlikely they will release 3 CODs in 1 year.

Black ops this year, then MW next year and Ghosts the year after would be my guess.

Call of Duty is a two year cycle, not one year.

For the Publisher and Consumer, its a one year cycle.
