As you all probably know, a few months ago, Sony officially shut down Sony:Liverpool, previously known as Psygnosis

well, while youtubing for some of the studio's games I came across a pitch video created by Psygnosis to show the current Psygnosis heritage to various key people in Sony

enjoy

its a shame, they were honestly a huge force in the background of SCE.

When you read bout how much they influenced the PS1,2 and to a lesser extent the PS3, some of the of the success sony had can be attributed to them.

They pretty much designed the dev kit that was standard for PS1 developement which i'd say is a pretty big part of the PS1 and to an extent it sucess that it was built with chepa and comparable PC hardware with the PS1 in mind.

Their output was terrible, 2 games in 7 years.

They deserved to get shut down.

Sony mismanaged them to death last gen and this gen and made them their equivelant to EA Tiburon for F1 games...and i'll never forgive them for that.

Colony wars,G-Police,Roll cage,Destruction Derby 1 and 2,Shadow of the beast,Overboard,Discworld,Kingsleys adventure and a ton more to boot were developed by these guys.

But nope sony done what MS done to rare and ripped the soul out, yet nobody seems to care bout Psygnosis unless your old enough to remember some of those games.

This. It's an even bigger shame when people b!tch so much about how MS ruined Rare but overlook how Sony neglected one of the most awesome dev collectives ever.People don't realize how important they were.

Wipeout, G-Police, Colony Wars, Destruction Derby Were the tip of the iceberg for them. The stuff they did on the Amiga like Shadow of the Beast, Menace and Awesome that were groundbreaking at the time. There would be no GTA without them.

That game was frikkin brutal. One of the hardest games I've ever played. I don't think I got past the 2nd level.

DMA designed and developed Lemmings (strangely another IP sony are sitting on), which made them mountains of cash and they were ambitious.Still a core element of Rockstar north to this day be ambitios as possible and it shows.

Psygnosis were immense and a powerhouse, then sony came at their peak and by 2000 they were the formula 1 team.....despite the rich history.

DMA Design would eventually go on to become Rockstar North. And to show your what a huge impact that groups has had on the industry just look at how Rockstar turned out and the influence their games has had.

Wipeout XL. That was it. I had Wipeout XL for the PSX in late 1996. I remembered racing games being my favorite on consoles at the time. Wave Race 64 on the N64 and Wipeout XL on the PSX. I recall liking the soundtrack for Wipeout XL although I can't remember any of it now.

And they released Wipeout 2048 for the Vita, arguably the best racing experience on handhelds... I guess we won't be getting any more games like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-BEJ4ivdX8&hd=1&t=25s. At least they're not being turned into the next Rare.
