A large number of staff members laid off from Gamespot!

Hope Chris Waters is still there. He's an excellent interviewer and one of the reasons GS E3 is actually worth a damn.

Hopefully they are planning on hiring some people with a decent opinion not over-influenced by Social Justice Warrior Syndrome.

Always sucks to see people get fired even though I personally found Carolyn criticizing Grand Theft Auto for "misogyny" laughable and have always thought Tom was a shock artist. I wonder who their replacements will be.

Shame people are being laid off, hopefully none of the people I enjoy go. I can see why Tom and Carolyn would go though, Tom has just caused a ton of controversy and Carolyn probably left because of the abuse which is a shame.

In other news Pacher was fired from Gametrailers.

Serious question. With all the layoffs in these major studios as well as layoffs within the game media, is this industry in trouble? I mean I used to watch adam sessler for all my game info and reviews and he just abruptly quit the whole "video game journalist" business. This just doesn't look good

I'm guessing the moderators are anticipating sexist and anti-transgender comments to appear in this thread.

Best of wishes to both of them. I didn't really agree with teh way Carolyn seemed to allow some of her own opinions on to her reviews, but i wouldn't want anyone layed off because of it.

I bet some TLOU and GTA V fanboys idiots are happy about this.

Too many reviews were frequently politicised instead of being dispassionate. A change of direction for Gamespot is just what is needed.

Fair warning: I will not tolerate anyone -- and I mean anyone -- being assholes here. I see even one of you expressing joy at people having just lost their jobs, I won't hesitate to suspend or ban. I'm not in the mood for dealing with any such behavior.

They both sucked as reviewers so I can't say I will miss them especially Tom's Click-bait BS but 2 people are out of the job and I hope they both find their feet and soon

While Tom was kinda awkward on camera...he could be funny at times. He also dared to ask why we shoot and kill so many arabs in videogames. Now that takes some balls. Carolyn was a 10+ year veteran...what a shame....

Damn shame, I wish them the best and hope they are able to find new work soon. I also hope that in this re-structuring, Giant Bomb is unaffected. I enjoyed both Carolyn's and McShea's reviews. I'm also glad that Kevin was not fired, he is without a doubt the best reviewer at GameSpot.

@Desmonic: This was my problem with her too. Personal politics being brought in to reviews usually makes them disingenuous. Some of the social justice articles being written by these two don't really belong on a mainstream review site and would be better off on tumblr, especially considering how easily they are refuted.

That said, some of the abuse she recieved was embarrassing. Have a bit of dignity. People are allowed to disagree with you and these are not bad people. And as for the Last of Us review, no big deal. I wasn't that over enamoured with it myself. It was undoubtedly a very well crafted game but it just wasn't my genre so if you'd asked me to review it I wouldn't in all honesty have given it a 10. I wouldn't be the right person to review it, either.

Agreed. Gamespot has been going downhill for exactly that reason for many years now. There was a time when this site was respected and had a shred of integrity. Hopefully this is a sign that they are headed back in that direction. Maybe they will bring in some actual journalist to cover the news and review the games instead of "personalities" who's controversial views are published simply to feed the trolls and generate clicks.
