Gameplay revealed. Looks pretty nice. Assassin's Creed/Batman combo.

Go here to watch it.

What do you think?

I am thrilled about it, but I'm a bit disappointed that it looks SO similar to Assassin's Creed. When I read about it initially, I pictured it being more RPG than Action.

That looks surprisingly good. From what the narrator said, it sounds like the devs are trying to make a bit less linear by having your actions of previous missions affect the state of future missions.

I'm going to keep my eye on this one.

It looks extremely similar to AC games but they do have nice free running so I'm not gonna complain too much

I don't like the wraith helping you see through walls kind of thing though but the combat looks fun albeit probably very simple and shallow

I'm just happy it doesn't look terrible like I expected

It reminds me sooo much of Assassin's Creed. Like those ropes between building Talion walks on, they are pretty much exactly the same as in AC. This dynamic enemy system sounds interesting. Wonder how it will feel in practice. I mean since they are fully voiced the options have to be fairly limited. Anyway it's a style of game I really enjoy, so I'll keep an eye on this for sure.

The freeflow combat in Arkham Asylum really was the most influential gameplaty innovation last gen.

Having just beat Arkham Origins I saw a lot of similarities between Shadow of Mordor and that series. And then people are saying it looks like Assassin's Creed.

I'm all for some Arkham Creed: Lord of the Rings edition. Will definitely be keeping my eye on this.

That looks surprisingly decent. Considering the game started off behind the 8-ball, this might actually be good.

Well that's mostly due to the fact that on a very basic level: Ass Creed and Batman have the same combat scheme. Difference is rhythm actually matters in Batman, and the feedback feels way better. Where as Ass Creed feels all feathery, is basically just a counter fest, and all around never challenges the basics of that combat system.

Combat is Batman, traversal is AC I'd say.

Could be a very potent mix in a LOTR setting though and I'm very interested now

That looks really, really fun. I hope your choices are as influential as they appear and I hope the combat really is as fluid as it looks. I love the idea of growing an army behind enemy lines.

Hopefully this leans more towards the Arkham combat. I don't mean the combat in Assassin's Creed, but it is shallow like you said.

Good god that camera looks horrendous. Way too low to the ground.

Oh jesus, batman vision. Does every game need this shit nowadays?

Looks uber shitty. Like AssCreed set in Middle Earth. I don't expect much from a game that rips off all its core elements from other games. All interest has been lost.

I think the idea of effecting the flow of the world sounds grandiose and difficult to achieve, but maybe they have a system that won't end up giving us another Spore-style disappointment. To imagine a game that gets easier because you're willing to take the time to manipulate enemies into fighting for you, or that stays harder because you're brutal with every enemy you face sounds impossible, but maybe we'll get something along those lines.

I'm intrigued by entirely new ways to change up how games play, and dynamic difficulty through player choice sounds pretty darn amazing.

That's a tangent, but if at the very least we could effect the entire world with our choices, I would be so happy.

When they showed the Orthog part and you saw how the guy you influenced can influence dozens of others and main enemies are all supposed to be unique and react differently based on what you did, it seems a bit too good to be true.

It would be awesome to pull off but I feel like there's a catch, choices and that kind of reacting in games has never really worked before even on small scale

It'll probably have roleplaying elements just like almost every action adventure game nowadays.

You'll have Dragon Age 3 for RPG since I find DA universe very similar to LotR.

Another poor cash in on JRR tolkien masterpiece that totally misses the point appealing to young console people wanting to be a bad dude killing things. Fairly pathetic.

Erm, so it's an Assassins Creed game set in the LotR universe? I never enjoyed AC games very much before so unless they change up the formula and design direction ... I think it's fair to say they won't get my $60.

Can't believe the reaction to this. It looks so lazy and generic. They couldn't even be bothered coming up with their own animations.

Magic barely exists in the books. But again, this is a video game designed for young children who wish to be a cool dude Assassins Creed man for an hour.

I was totally stoked when I first read the GI cover article. This video has officially made this game my first must have title of the year.

@cfisher2833 and @uninspiredcup: will you both shut the **** up? A new game that you've only seen the barest fraction of and you're already making dumbass prognostications. And the LotR stories were good reading, but stop kidding yourself- they did not, and will not ever, change the world. They're fucking works of fiction, for Christ's sake!

Back on topic: Since Batman: AA, I've played every similar beat em up released(as far as I know)- The 3 Arkhams, Cap: SS, Sleeping Dogs, and TMNT OotS- each one of them put their own spin on the new standard of strike-counter-strike melee combat- whether with changes to the level of interactivity with the environment, different methods of executing special moves, or even different kinds of basic combat maneuvers. I can't wait to see what this one brings to the table. This will make the third LotR game I've bought this generation, and my hope is it'll be the best of the bunch.

This looks like it could be the next Darksiders, in that, it's a total ripoff, but at least it's a fun and well made ripoff.
