Why does 1008P cost more than 720P?  If you're telling me that 720P is better than 1080P, and that 1080P is a rip-off, you've got to be eating breakfast in the middle of the night!  I could also ask you why the PS3 costs more than any other console right now, but, we don't want to get into that, do we?  LOGIC!  LOGIC!  LOGIC!  Think about it, discuss it, don't MAIM your BRAINS!

Because of number differences, and probably from the fact that you won't find 1080p on some smaller HDTV's. 1080p looks better, but 720p is fine for me. I can't tell the difference unless they are side by side. Besides, it is not really 1080p that costs more, it is specific TV's that cost more than others. Go to bestbuy and compare some of the magnolia TV's to the 1080p ones on the sales floor. There are mega price differences, and the ones in magnolia, have alot that are not even 720p and they cost 4000+. Sure they have extra speakers and USB's but that doesn't warrant such difference. I can say that price difference tends to stem MORE from size and HDTV tech.

1080p is technically better. 720p is more affordable and feasible when it comes to games on both the 360 and PS3.

1080i = Interlaced, every other line is rendered. 50% loss

The thing is, some people say some games make sacrifes like frame-rate drops to put out in 1080p. I don't own an HDTV, so i don't know.

1080P shows more area than 720P, as it has higher dimensions than 720P.

1080 is just an increase in pixels. Color, tonality, brightness, white-point, blackpoint, contrast, gamut, refresh delay, technology limitations, lifespan, and costs are all factors in buying a TV. If you end up having the worse of all of these for just an increase in resolution, i wouldn't say its worth it. So yes, 720 can be > 1080 just as 1080 can be > 720.

This is exactly right. Which is why Pioneers still set the standard in most cases in the plasma department. There have been many lcds and plasmas reviewed but Pioneers and Pannys with 1028x768 resolution always come out on top with overall picture quality. These new 1080p lcds (Sony, Samsung, etc) are fashionably hip at best buy and to certain individuals but to those who demand true videophile performance out of games and movies will still tell you that 720p is where it's at now.

I'm a videowhore and have owned several hdtvs...and carefully inspected the new 1080p bravias and Samsung dlps. While those are excellent tvs, their no match for my Pioneer 4270hd (720p) when viewing hd-dvds, blu-ray, PS3, X360, Wii, older consoles, or standard dvd films. Yes..I go overboard but I've seen the very best ($$$) setups with 1080p showing off Sony's blu-ray flicks via harddrive in a home theater environment with a $5,000 surround sound package hooked up to Sony's SXRD, 34XBR960 (34" hd tube), Pioneer 50" 1080p, 46" 1080p Bravia, etc and the only one that comes close is the 50" Pioneer. All showing native 1080p video which runs circles around most games today.

The little ole' 720 plasma is the one that could and the one that DOES outperform them in colors, detail, accuracy, brightness, black-white ratio, and response time. I really don't know how long it's going to last me but I keep my fingers crossed.
