5 Reasons the PS4 is comparable to a "high end" PC

#1 High end video cards use 2-3 GB s of video Ram. Guerilla Games confirmed Killzone Shadowfall uses 3GBs of video ram on the PS4. The majority of high end PC GPUS like the 7970 graphics have 2-3 GBs of GDDR5.

#2 The PS4 has access to high speed GDDR5 for system memory. Meanwhile PCs still use slow, old DDR3 for system memory.

#3 In Battlefield 4 recommended specs, Dice recommends a 7870 graphics card. We know the PS4's GPU is similiar to the 7850, and because it is supercharged and optimized for gaming it easily exceeds the 7870 recommended card. So the PS4 meets the recommend GPU specs for the very latest game. Why in the world would DICE make a low end card the recommended GPU?

#4 The CPU's numbers really mean very little. When PS2 came out its processor was 299mhz, while "high end" PCs at the time where around 700mhz. Yet the PS2 slapped them around for a good while. Remember the Playstation isnt bogged down by Bill Gates spyware otherwise known as Windows

#5 The "Dark Sorcerer" tech demo is still the graphics king

Dont worry hermits, in 4-5 years PC games will start to look better then PS4 games. Unfortunately by then all the big cash you spent on current "high end" PC hardware will be obsolete, and you will need to upgrade again.

Its nothing like my pc. Its fail rate is too high and it wobbles way more than my pc does. Plus theres no games on it.

Then why does Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty Ghosts look and perform worse on the PS4 than my PC (I have a GeForce 660ti by the way which isn't high end anymore)? And yes I've played both games on both platforms. Not to mention Crysis 1-3 and BF3 and BF4 look better than Killzone Shadowfall, the only truly good looking PS4 game apart from some of the sports games.

It's nothing like a PC. My PC can play Mp3's and CD's no problem, my PC can take videos and screenshots of games and lets me do whatever I please with them, my PC lets me modify my games and change the way they look and play, my PC lets me upgrade hardware and configure hardware to get the performance I want out of it, my PC gives me the freedom to use whatever Digital Download service I want, or none at all, and the lists goes on.

If you're talking about this from a purely hardware standpoint, you're still way off the mark.

since when is 7870 high end? High end is 7970ghz/ gtx 780/Gtx 780ti/R9 290/ R9 290 X

4. The CPU numbers mean very little? Sounds like the kind of talk you'd expect from someone who is well aware their gaming console's CPU is lacklustre. Can it even beat a core i3? You're talking about high end PCs which sounds to me like Core i5/i7.

5. I would like to see the Dark Sorcerer tech demo running at 1080P on a retail PS4, next to a competent PC running a similarly demanding tech demo. But on the whole, yes - I accept that on the other side of YouTube's compression artefacts there must be a great deal of impressive graphics in the dark sorcerer.

In terms of pure numbers the PS3's GPU is midrange at worse. Not low end as hermit viral marketing will tell you. Thats still deceiving though, as consoles have always exceeded their hard number performance significantly, thanks to quality developers who are afraid of rampant PC piracy (one PC game developer noticed 95% of the copies played online were pirated) and being a closed system that can be optimized.

GDDR5 is much faster then DDR3. DDR3 is dirt cheap, indicating its age. You can get 8GBs for $40 or less anywhere. Sony is paying $70 for 8GBs of GDDR5. Thats wholesale pricing too. Surely having a system that is 100% GDDR5 will make a significant difference in graphics performance.

Im confident David Cage will pull through with visuals just like the Dark Sorcerer demo. He made it clear at they could go even further at the PS4 reveal. Once the big console exclusive developers like Naughty Dog and Quantom Dream show their beauties hermits are going to be shocked

• Cheapest games
• Many f2p games
• Best versions of multiplats by far
• Much higher resolutions
• Better graphics. Higher settings in games for better shadows, lighting, textures, lod detail, detail distance, draw distance, AA, AF, Tesselation, shaders, post processing, PhysX and more
• Mouse an keyboard control
• Choice of using a wider variety of controllers
• Emulators for old games that make them even better
• Free online
• Wider choice of genres
• The biggest backwards compatible library of games spanning decades
• Most exclusive titles
• Mods. Skins, sounds, models, maps, full game mods.
• Smoother frame rates
• Able to fix many errors and issues with games without having to wait for a patch from the developers
• Upgradeable
• Best quality for streaming games (PS4 looks laughably bad and sounds even worse)
• Leading the way into new graphical benchmarks and heights

PC GPUs already use GDDR5, they have been for a while. And GDDR6 is right around the corner. The DDR3 is better for and used for system RAM

@lostrib: Go install MacOS on your PC and take a picture. While it is possible it is illegal and requires a lot of hacking. The fact is the PS4 and Xbox are using PC architecture running a customized operating system. Sony does not allow the user to change the operating system.

3. Not with the Mantle API, a 7870 Ghz OC edition (Faster Core, More Shaders, More Texture units) will take a dump on it and will run BF4 at similar frame rates with higher settings at a higher resolution.

@DarthaPerkinjan: try and google Battlefield 3 benchmark. The MID range 7870 is running B3 at over 1080p hight settings at close to 60fps. I think I saw one at an average of 55. That's 5 FPS less than a PS4 yet a higher resolution. So, PS4 is a MID range PC.

Barely mid range considering with the new cards out now, a GTX 670/680 and 7950 would be considered mid range nowadays (or close to).

Consoles use shared ram, PC doesn't.

We have GDDR5 and DDR3, soon to be GDDR6 and DDR4.

not entirely a fair comparison. PS4 and PC use a different architecture, so the results depend on the game engine and optimization.

PS4 is roughly comparable to a mid-range gaming PC in terms of pure processing power, but you can't draw a conclusion with one game.

Ps4 is a low-end gaming pc.

The ps4 CPU is ultra low-end and the GPU is low-end deal with it...

and a HD7850(similar to what ps4 have) play BF4 with the same graphics and performance like ps4 verison of BF4.

bear in mind that the HD7850 alrady get avg 56fps on 1680x1050 higher rez than the ps4 verison at 1600x900, so in this rez the fps will go 60+

#4 is actually a very valid point, I mean the part about the bloatware known as Windows.

@seanmcloughlin: Always has and always will be. PC Gamers are "usually" sexually deprived introverts who try to compensate by having the most raw processing power, biggest PSU, sticks of RAM, etc...

3. True, you get better performance out of consoles since they have a low level API, but Mantle will close the gap

Emotion Engine isn't comparable to the standard Pentium back in the day, not at all & PS2 never slapped around PC's, Thanks to GPU's & more VRAM, Max Payne had better textures than any PS2 game, though the models were terrible compared to MGS2 & FFX, since Remedy made MP on a shoe string budget & couldn't afford fancy facial animation, plus PS2 had no AA/AF & ran games at 480i

5. It's a tech demo, games never look as good as tech demo's

Not to mention that's high settings and PS4 is medium.
