I was doing some calculating today. and I hear lots of arguments about how the 360 cost more in the long run because of the $50.00 a year live membership, but people are also forgetting another expense that is equal to xbox live.. BATTERIES.. Yes batteries, now before you think im crazy, hear me out. I play my 360 on avg about 4 hours a day maybe sometimes less. I have to buy a pack of batteries for the controller atleast once a month. a pack of good batteries are about $5.00 with tax. So if i spend $5.00 a month on batteries PLUS $5.00 a month on xbox live thats $10.00 a month im paying for the 360 in order to enjoy it fully!! The average console life span lasts 5-6 years, so after 5 years the total cost of the 360 is..  $1000.00!!   lol! I know this may seem like irrational fanboyism but come on!! ITS TRUE!! DO THE MATH!! $10.00 a month for batteries and xbox live is $120 a year!! If this console lasts 5 years thats $600.00 you have spent just on a live membership and batteries alone!! NOW throw in the $400.00 price tag and that comes to $1000.00!!!

With the PS3 you pay a one time price of $600.00 and thats it!! No worries of buying batteries for the controller and no live membership. Grant it yes xbox live might be better but hey, With PS3 you can play online, chat with friends and browse the web and its all good  PLUS by the time "Home" is released, the PSN will own the 360 in live service and IT WILL BE FREE!!! Sure the retail price for the PS3 might be $200.00 more but come on, after 5 years you will be paying the same amount for a PS3 as you would just on batteries and the live membership alone!!

You actually had time to sit down and try and calculate this stuff? You really care that much?

You should probably be more worried about that fact then a theoretical price.

Or you could use common sense and buy a Battery Pack and a Quick Charge kit  Anyway, the 360 costs more than that, considering all the games I will getting for it.

Okay, I only read the topic, none of the post, but even if it did cost more, at least it is the best console out there.

Lol, if batteries are costing you that much a month, and you're lame enough to calculate it, you should just buy a play n charge kit so you can charge the controller.

Wrong. Xbox 360 costs over $100,000....

Food to eat while playing Xbox Live, plus electricity, plus cable modem, plus all the games, plus a house, plus a car...

First of all BigBoss you are the biggest PS3 fanboy on here.  You don't play 360 4 hours a day, you don't even have one.

Secondly,  If you want to do calculations like that you have to take into account the time value of money.  Haven't you ever taken a finance class before.  So if you take into account a 5% inflation rate that 600 dollars is really only worth $519.54 in present dollars.

Lastly, If you really want to do stupid threads like this then include the cost of electricity to play a system for that time period.  Include the cost of gas to go to the store to buy those batteries, etc...

This thread has to be the biggest failure i've seen on here in a while.

Dude Man I don't even know what to say. I mean I thought all consoles cost more than what you buy them for over their lifetime. But I think that we all knew that. You know common sense and all being what it is. And I don't spend money on bateries since I have a play and charge since day one and still running great. So all of you buying bateries listen to this guy and get a play and charge and save yourself some money .

Also ps3's home will have alot of microtransactions. They already said that so lets talk about price in another 3 years once we see just how much we have to spend to really get everything out of home. Free isn't free when you actually look into it.

Have you ever heard of chargeable batteries? Or swapable battery packs? Go redo your math and your post.  The 360 can us both, unlike the batteries in the PS3 controllers that will die eventually, which means sending it in to Sony, or buying a new controller.

And XBL is $50 a month, not $120.

Yup, $12 for the battery pack. The controller comes with a housing that you put two AA batteries into and snap on. The battery pack with a play and charge cable is $20. A battery pack with the charging station (charges 2 at once) is $30.

The PS3 uses 100 more watts over the 360. I guess in 5 years letting the PS3 run non stop.... OMG the PS3 costs 100 Million dollars!

BTW I can buy a pack of 4 AA name brand batteries at the Dollar Tree for a $1.  For $5 you could buy rechargeable AA batteries maybe you just need to shop somewhere else.

are you i***t or what ?? there are some batteries called...Rechargable batteries, you can charge them every time they run out of energy...

so you dont have to buy battery packs once per month...and yeah XBL costs 50 per year, but it is way better than PSN...

big difference between long haul and on the spot. on the spot for 360 u pay 400. on the spot for ps3 u pay 600. in the long haul ofcourse ur gonna spend more money than the actual system with games, great online service, accessories, etc.

NO WRONG!!! you forgot the amount of electricity the 360 eats up. That equals out to well over $1000 in 5 years. And if you get a hand cramp playing the 360! FORGET ABOUT IT!!! You have to call the ambulance and pay the like 800 dollar ride to the hospital so they can refer you to a therapist and THAT costs A CRAP LOAD!!!! Plus all the gas you waste driving to the therapist and the store. Also when you get constipated you have to buy those laxatives unless you want to **** a brick. Man that is like 12,000 dollars it has racked up!!! oh my god the 360 is totally not worth it.

Where as the PS3 you pay 600 ONCE you get compensated for your electricity and you get free games with free online. Not to mention you get a life time supply of gas too. And the PS3 controller won't give you a hand cramp at all. PS3 is the cheapest of the THREE!!! Even the Wii. With the wii you need to buy TV after TV after TV after TV because you will break them with the Remote. And that is like an extra 1,000,000 in its self! DAMN!!!

More than $1000 during that time. There's the electricity, interwebs, snacks, games, Xbox Live, bus fare, rent and some other expensses I can't think of at the top of my head.

You cows need to stop with these silly threads. You only make yourselfs look worse with threads like these. You might as well add another $2.50 to that $1000 for duct tape. So we can tape our head together to prevent exploding from trying to read these crazy desperate damage control threads. More I think about it though 360 owners do end up paying more because we have to buy games. PS3 owners do not have to worry about that whole game thing.

Or you could use common sense and buy a Battery Pack and a Quick Charge kit  Anyway, the 360 costs more than that, considering all the games I will getting for it.Tulak_Hord

I know, you only pay $10 a month for batteries for years if you have no brain. If you have a brain you then buy a charge kit and batter or rechargable AA battery kit even. What a joke.

And you know what the360 probably costs like $2000 or more when you add up all the amazing games now and coming out soon. So I guess it is more expensive you're right TCÂ
