an extensive look on the game

#2 Posted by ConanTheStoner (5421 posts) -

Yeah, been posted multiple times since earlier today. Looks cool though, just wish they'd demo this game with a more interesting play style.

Sold me. Finally. Thank you.

Looks good, hope they don't focus too much on the story or at least give us a skip button, not everyone played all of the previous games to follow the story. Or even bother.

#5 Posted by Omega-316 (786 posts) -

@speedfog: ya i used to follow the story of this franchise religiously. But man its hard for a mgs fan like me to remember half the mess in the story line.

well considering this is big boss and not solid snake, I doubt the story of MG, MG2, MGS1, MGS2, or MGS4 are too relevant.

MGS3 would be the big one you'd want to follow followed by Peacewalker.

You only need to play MGS3 and Peace Walker get a complete understanding of the story in MGS5. However, I have a feeling that Metal Gear Solid 5 will be one of the easiest to jump into story wise. Going by the trailers, MGS5 looks like it will focus on the present instead of referencial fan service. Besides MGS4, I feel like you can play any of the Metal Gear games for the first time and understand them just fine.

watched it yesterday and it was glorious. Although the game seems to provide way too many tools that make it look like a casual game. Zero challenge at all. And it annoys the fuck out of me that the guy playing takes out every single enemy soldier one by one, and so very easily. Not to mention that the enemy's field of vision is so very poor even though the game gives you so many tools to overcome anything very easily. Then we have the markers... That shit is broken bro.

I'm expecting that many of this stuff will be turned off when playing on higher difficulties like Naughty Dog did with The Last of Us. Another thing Kojima should take cues from ND is the freaking real-time menu. In fact, all devs should have it in their games by default.

Same, the gameplay looks amazing but the entire time I watched it I thought I could do way better.

Also, immediately turning off that slow-mo shit. I want zero splinter cell in my metal Gear.

anyways, being a herm, I don't care about this game. Bloodborne could be on my wishlist but not this.

@amazonangry: How is denying content to an entire playerbase ever a good thing?? It's like the journalists at e3 applausing when Microsoft and Sony announce timed exclusives or exclusive DLC, why???

Cows and lems actually agreeing with each other on the same game? I'm not ok with this

You did good and stood up for yourself. Can't fault a soul for that.

Looking good so far, but shouldn't that heavy running with cumbersome sound effects cause the slightest hint of suspicion from the soldiers. Lousy enemy awareness, I have faith that the developer will fix that.

- Coming to last gen consoles

- PC gamers probably already have one, or can buy one for less than 100 euros/dollars/pounds

- MGS is a console franchise for more than 10 years. If you care about it, you probably already have a console to play it.

- Kojima express interest in a PC version. If Rising sold well enough on PC, it'll probably get ported 6-12 months later

- Already desperate after GTA 5 coming to pc

- ??????

- Profit?

The environment looks really poor. Last gen level.
Very un-polished vegetation.

#32 Edited by seanmcloughlin (38216 posts) -

What is with the lack of proper AF in next gen games? Look at the ground beside the horse compared to 2 feet in front of it

Floating "X" vegetation, Dat next gen power.

Meanwhile, on pc.

obviously PC will be better, but are you so petty you use a super blurry, not even full-res youtube video for the basis of your argument?

My friend, at a higher res, it would change "x" shaped floating vegetation.

Damn, that was impressive. Really excited for this game now, was let down with Ground Zeroes due to it's length but this looks like it has so much content so I am starting to believe it is 200x larger.

Haven't felt this magic in years... Almost makes me want to get a console... Thank Gaben for rentals :)

#38 Edited by ConanTheStoner (5421 posts) -

@ReadingRainbow4:

Yeah, I'm definitely turning off the reflex mode and markers. Makes the game much more fun. I tried using them at first in Ground Zeroes, but it kills all sense of tension.

@seanmcloughlin:@uninspiredcup:

Unfortunately, this is really just a PS3 game. It'll be visually appealing enough, but on a technical level it won't be wowing anybody. It's Kojimas first go with an open world game and he's targeting 8 year old hardware as his baseline. Hopefully they can push the PS4/X1 versions a bit leading up to launch, but I'm not holding my breath.

I'm just hyped for the gameplay above all else.

This is definitely just a toned down E3 build of the game. It only serves to show functionality, but nothing is balanced at all. The enemy AI and field of vision is way off. In Ground Zeroes a soldier will spot you from across the map when you're running.

Also, you won't be able to spam stuff like the fulton and support calls. They all cost in game currency and you're not going to be that loaded with cash all the time. Plus the support requests will take away from your score. As sloppy as this demo was there is no way you'd be getting an S-rank like this guy did. This was more of a C-rank run.

As for stuff like markers and reflex mode, you can disable those right from the start. That's how I play Ground Zeroes. You actually get a bonus for not using reflex.

But yes, Konami has already stated that this is a broken build only made to show off features of the game.

As for the menus, they are all in real time.

@hello505:

Basically same as I stated above to Gue1. In Ground Zeroes those sounds would get you caught instantly. Even when it's pouring down rain they will hear you running like that, and on a clear day they'll hear you from a good distance away.

This was just an unbalanced easy build for E3.

And I'm not sucking up for Konami here. The fact that everyone is having to explain this away for them means that they dropped the ball on this presentation. They definitely should have shown something more representative of the final game.

Well...this is a last gen game. Its getting an upgrade on next gen platforms, but it's roots still call back to the 360 and PS3

Usually I'd say play the whole series, but in this case as long as you've played Snake Eater and Peace Walker I think you'll be good... maybe watch the Portable Ops story on Youtube, the game is a fucking drag to play.

I would say check out Ground Zeroes as well, but so many people feel ripped off by the lack of content so I don't want to give that advice. Personally I spent more time playing Ground Zeroes than I'm comfortable admitting lol. But it seems most people didn't find the same amount of replayability that I did.

It's just odd that all these amazing looking games (especially PS4 games) all lack proper AF. No one seems to know why either and devs don't talk about it. It's like a 1-2 frame hit on PC games

It's Kojima proof.

#48 Edited by TheGuardian03 (21724 posts) -

Impressive. the amount of freedom given in a MGS game has never been like this. i really hope that the guy playing the game is on easy mode or god mode or some shit cause i want challange. also infinite amount of fulton is stupid, hope it's removed. keep polishing the game kojima it's going to be amazing. love all the details.

The menu was real time in Ground Zeroes. You could be spotted or killed while snake had it out.

Well you can't have both..... Freedom or Challenge ?
