During his GAME24 keynote, NVIDIA's CEO Jen-Hsun Huang revealed that more than ten million gamers have bought into the GTX680 class of GPU: "There are ten million gamers around the world who bought into the GTX680 class of GPUs" In other words, this basically means that ten million gamers have bought a GTX680 reference model, GTX680 OCed models, GTX660, GTX670 or a GTX690.

Link.

Sorry if old.

Thoughts? IMHO it's a pretty solid number

So way more than 10 million people have Computers more powerful than the PS4.

The GTX 970 and 980 are flying off the shelves right now.

I already bought 2 GTX 970s for about 7x the performance of the PS4.

Nice. There is factually a higher number of PCs that are superior to current consoles than number of PS4's sold. And then you have ATI sales too....jesus.

Seems like the multiplat best on PC argument holds up no matter what now. No more lies.

And surely none of the 600 series owners upgraded to the 700 series or to AMD's offerings.

Dude, ...there is so much more awesome PC ownage in that video.

  • The DSR+Grass on demon souls 2....holy ****.
  • PC driving forward tech. Majority of NVIDIA sales, effects, and creations and power users. (should be a "duh", but this is SW).
  • Multiplats way better on PC
  • 4k sampling jesus amazing
  • VXGI in UE4

To imagine theres less PS4's than high end gaming PC's. I love it! A fact now!

But you must not forget benchmarkers who buy several of these for testing purposes, and they will also buy every iteration of card for the sake of benchmarking. So many of the sales figures of each generation of card do not actually represent individual owners

Absolutely, but I don't think it's a stretch to assume the number is well beyond 10 million. I expect the 7xx line, the 9xx line and AMDs products combined, would at the very least compete with the 6xx sales numbers (understatement).

Hardware sites also make up a significant percentage of consumers who go double or triple SLI, alongside those who do it for bragging rights. Oh yes, there are such people - who like upgrading their PC but don't necessarily game that much

When considering that there are 10 million gtx 680 class gpus sold and the 700 series have been out for more than a year, now the 900 series is just released and AMD have probably sold quite many gpus during this time as well. It's safe to say that there are more pc gamers with much more performance than the next gen consoles than there are next gen consoles sold.

The damage control is amazing, and I love how consolites can draw their on lines in the sand about whats "important".

How many PS4's have sold purely on hype and to people who only play CoD and Fifa ...? considering in every damn game store I go in thats all they ever advertise.... hardly games that push the systems are they?

Hell... the most played game on Xbox360/PSN consistantly is MINECRAFT. shove your double standards where the son doesn't shine boys...

Easily more GPU's out there in player's hands than there are console PS4/X1 gamers. also take in other advantages (Processers not being week ass mobile cpu's that barely compare to very early quad cores.)

How many Hardware sites are exist? 500? how many of those are reviewing GPU's? 250? let say that they buy 6 GPU's per site, 250x6 = 1500 GPU's. 10000000 vs 1500 LOL

I Cannot be described that 0.015% as a significant percentage.

THat isn't my point. I'm pro pc, just not biased. Nvidia sees the disconnect between the core gaming community, the casual community, and the publishers. Nvidia has brought out a popular portable gaming platform--questionable ethics involved, a popular gaming centered tablet, and are now throwing numbers around to try and center a market. I would not be surprised if they start selling DIY cases, next.

I understand the positives that consoles bring, but it seems only nintendo is doing so at this moment.

Probably very few and even those who want to have the latest hardware sell their old cards when upgrading so the older graphics cards are still in use somewhere.

Does anyone have the sale figures of the nvidia 700 and 900 series and the amd 7000 and r9 series? Given the fact that there are 10 million gpus sold that are much more powerful than the next gen consoles only from nvidia's 600 series there are likely more than 20 million PCs out there that easily outperforms the next gen consoles. And even older graphics cards in sli/crossfire outperforms them as well but they are probably in a minority.

I doubt all the hardware sites, benchmarkers, hardware nerds etc. together would make up more than maybe 10k customers. And then you also forget that you have the 7xx series, the current 9xx series, the 5xx series which is still pretty damn relevant, and all of AMD's offerings etc. etc. etc. etc.

What ever the number is that gets used by the media for benchmarks it's not in the millions so mentioning that is dumber than dumb. That's like saying that all the dev kits and review hardware make up a significant number of console sales. You insecure consolites sure are desperate.

lol so apparently according to some there are millions of these GPU owned by benchmark sites or millions of people happen to have them lying around in their homes not using them because they want to own the latest hardware.

No. GPU's dwarf CPU's in terms of raw compute power. Most if not all heavy compute based programs will offload their computations to the GPU where ever possible.

So , we're play that game again where people pretend that games like Shogun 2 , Crysis series , Stalker trilogy , Witcher 2 , ArmA series , Battlefield 3 , Metro series and so on never happened .? Cool !

and the part where third party games look and perform substantially better on a PC.

Gaming is the only significant reason to own a performance GPU. Most workstations use powerful CPU's to achieve their goals.

Many colleges/universities have workstations that use dedicated workstation cards such as Quadro and FireGL. They can reach up to $5000 apiece. Why settle for a mere gaming card? ;)
