Well at times they are both useful depending on the situation Sora's in. If it's a healer you need, I'll say Donald. But if you need a fighter, then Goofy.

Well it really all depends if I were playing Kingdom Hearts I would keep Donald in just because he was quick with the healing but if I were playing Kingdom Hearts II I kept Goofy because he's a fighter, he's quick to throw down.
Goofy is powerful, and Donald is somewhat weak, but Donald's healing powers are really useful when you need them. So Donald is more useful in my opinion.
Having just played KH1 I'd say Donald, just because he can cast magic.
I find -other- fighters not important in Kingdom hearts because I can beat them anyway. I don't need Goofy.
On the other hand, I like having full health, just in case. Also Goofy levels faster then Donald, so the creators clearly meant for the players to dump Goofy...
Well, if it's from Sora's standpoint I'd have to say Goofy for KH and Donald for KH2. Sora's fine magic wise in KH, but in KH2 it's pretty useless and you can't spam Cure so he'll need Donald. But personally I always pick Donald over Goofy because I just like him more as a character. In KH I actually turned him into a melee character by giving him a Battle Mace which makes him pretty useless. But hey, it's not like the game's hard or anything.
(spoiler alert!but i think everyone beat KH1) well i think it depends because remember kingdom hearts 1 at the end where they take donald and goofy away, and then they give you to fight with one and then the other, well i think there is where we saw witch one was better, story wise donald is always fighting with sora and goofy was always with sora, i like donald's magic better but goofy is who u can trust to save u more.
Although anyone could solo both games easily, i would go with donald 'cause saving an extra potion from sora is always usefull. In kingdom hearts 2 though, sometimes you have to prefer Goofy over him, in case you want Valor.
