Dragion Quest IX sells over 2.8 million in one day.

We you wondering how many people in Japan ventured out to pick up Dragon Quest IX on launch day? You've seen the pictures and video footage of the launch lines, but did you have a guestimate as to how many people actually picked up a copy?

Early reports are stating that Dragon Quest IX managed to move 2,877,000 units on day one. Keep in mind, we heard that there were 2 million preorders, and 3 million units sent to stores. If that's the actual day-one total, than Japan has a brand-new first place record holder. The previous day-one top-seller goes to Final Fantasy VIII with 2.5 million units. Famitsu gave Dragon Quest IX a 40/40.benleslie5

Yeah apparently the best score an DQ title has received from the magazine, and also the Tenth game to receive a perfect title in Famitsu. Famitsu Scores on DQ main titles:

Dragon Quest II 38/40
Dragon Quest III 38/40
Dragon Quest IV 38/40
Dragon Quest V 36/40
Dragon Quest VI 34/40
Dragon Quest VII 38/40
Dragon Quest VIII 39/40
Dragon Quest IX 40/40

It doesn't come as a surprise since DQ series has always been such a respected and loved series back in Japan whose popularity arguably even eclipses that of Final Fantasy (Fenian can tell us if this is true or not).

Famitsu has also been always been a bit "liberal" to DQ games while giving it's scores and this again attributes to the popularity of the series in Japan.

I personally respect DQ for believing and sticking in the "old-school" JRPG ideology but personally I cannot see myself liking a series that ignores the idea of progression with the times. But that might be because I haven't played DQ's most popular installment in the West -- DQVIII. 

DQIX actuallly looks really good and different from the old games. It has a lot a lot of customization which is going to be a BIG win for me. Cant wait for this gameFlipyap28

Despite the customisation, it seems to play very similar to most of the DQ games which is a minus point for me unfortunately. :(

But I thought the game is in 3rd person, to me thats just Final Fantasy

Famitsu gave it a 40/40, why do I have a feeling that GS, IGN etc wont be giving it 10/10s :lol:
