Which was the 2nd best team in baseball this year, Detroit Tigers or St. Louis Cardinals?

Cardinals are my team, but they played like a bunch of toddlers. They couldn't hit the ball if Sox rolled a basketball across the plate. I'm severely disappointed with the way the Cardinals played.

I think Pitsburg would have had a better chance against Sox.

I doubt either team cares. But to play along, if the Tigers and Cards had met in the WS, I'd expect the Cards to win. The Tigers aren't a very good WS team. Look at the last couple of times they've been there.

Who really gives a **** though? Both gonna be in the hunt next year.

For me, the Tigers have become something like the Braves, always coming short. Their hitting just disappears on the playoffs.

I think its interesting to see who people think would have won if these 2 played it out.

I do think the Tigers were the better team.

That and when they do show up, our terrible bullpen throws the game for us....

They seriously need to clean out the bullpen and get a decent closer for a change. Totally unacceptable the way our bullpen was throwing grand slams...

I'm a die hard Tigers fan, but I can't honestly say I think they would beat the Cardinals. Their bullpen is awful except for Smyly (and maybe Benoit, who was fantastic all regular season) and their hitting is way too inconsistent.

Could you imagine if we had someone like Uehara to close out games? Would be a lovely change of pace....

I think objectively the case is made for St. Louis. The fact that they tied Boston for the best regular season record and played against them in the World Series points to them being the 2nd best team. Unfortunately their playing in the World Series itself didn't reflect that.

A case could be made for the Tigers though as well, their record is not as relevant since they played in different leagues and the difference in wins is only 4. The Tigers did play the Red Sox closer I believe. But either way a case could be made, I think this would have made a good series as well.

The Cards are an amazing team. Even when they lose great people they still continue to bring it year after year.
