Sonic Heroes (PS2 only) by far wins this. After all, a game that is physically impossible to beat should qualify as difficult. I can only imagine the horrible mutants that have been spawned in order to actually beat such a game.

Huh, are you callin me a mutant :P
Of all that I've played, I'd pick pretty much any of the 2D, sidescrolling GG games. They're just brutal once you combine that small screen with moving fast and retardedly hard emerald collection tasks.sonicphc
This. Although, STT was easy.

If you are admitting to beating Sonic Heroes on the PS2, then frankly I officially declare that you are BAMF. That's strange....I don't remember this paranormal wormhole being in my room before....
Well if we're chosing a game that's hard by design, not by being broken, then Sonic 2 on the Game Gear is still hands down the hardest Sonic game ever.kbaily
Couldn't have said it better myself. I still haven't managed to get pass the boss in world 4. Heck, just getting to him is a nightmare!
I would say Advance 2 was also a bit hard espically when you got to Sky Canyon.chocolate1325
and the moving boss battles didn't help either
[QUOTE="kbaily"][QUOTE="macrules_640"]Yeah Sonic 2 on the GG was hard. I congratulate whoever was able to beat it.SMario64
I've beat it and gotten all the emeralds.
For a guy with a Yoshi logo, you're pretty awesome.

...now thats awesome...
Another hard Sonic game is Shadow the Hedgehog. lt's so hard bacause l often wanted to change the missions and to make it to the final story was really hard. :xkoolkat14
I'm kinda ashamed of saying this after changing so much my attitude towards Sonic games but, *gasp* I beated Shadow game Hard mode. Yes, I got every A on every frigging mission, what a waste of time
For those wondering how hard Sonic 2 for the GG is, I'll describe a couple scenarios.
First of all you probably won't get past the first boss. Robotnick saves you from a bath in lava only to toss you to a crab boss. You can try to attack it but it will bounce you around. You have to find the right place to stand and dodge the bouncing canonballs and dodge them until Robotnick comes to destroy the boss himself.
The second level has you riding hangliders which requires looking in the manual to figure out. If you hit the action buttons, Sonic drops from the hanglider. You hit left to climb slowly and right to dive quickly and that takes a while to figure out.
Did I mention that this was an old school game where you go into boss fights with no rings?
The third level is a water level (oh joy) and the second act is completely underwater which is nice because it doesn't force you to find air bubbles however there's an area where you have to get in a slow moving bubble and manuver your way through a shooting gallery of spears and little crawfish robots that move faster than your slow ass.
Act 3 of the fourth level has a series of timed springboard jumps that was so frustrating for me I threw the GG down in frustration which cause a green stripe to appear on the top and I had to send it away for repairs.
The fifth level has this crazy flywheels that Sonic has to fling himself from. Actually that level was one of the easier ones for me.
The six zone is murder though. It's a series of fast moving platforms and tubes that require pinpoint timing because the level was spike filled with homicidal intentions
Finally when you do reach Robotnick. you'll have no rings and fight him in this weird arena where he shoots this flower shaped bullets at you and even if you wait for those to clear, he'll send lighting waves throughout the whole room. You just have to stay in the outer tube until you find an opportunity. I'll say that when I first did this I had 10 lives, three continues and used them all up and STILL didn't beat him.
What that? You didn't get all the Emeralds? On the Master System version you can't complete it without all of them. Have fun on your scavenger hunt because there's no special stages in Sonic 2.
