What do you consider the best and worst of the various Sonic Games.
My top 5 best
5.Sonic The Hedgehog: It is was the game that got me intrested in gaming and it had awesome graphics at the time.
4.Sonic Adventure: This is what a 3D Sonic game should play like.
3.Sonic CD; Awesome special stages, Time Travel elements and some awesome bosses and stages just and awesome game.
2.Sonic and Knuckles: Alone it is okay but play it with the other Sonic games Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 you get a really different experience.
1.Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Improved on the original in everyway possible and 2 player vs mode was fun.
Worst
5. Sonic Fighters: Not a very good game. Too easy and boring it could be completed in 20 minutes.
4. Sonic 3D Flickies Island: It didn't feel fast at all the stages were awful and losing those flickies when you got hit was annoying and also the speical stages were dull.
3. Sonic Drift Racing: Nothing on the amazing Super Mario Kart only 4 racers and horrible course design.
2.Sonic Shuffle: I played this for 5 minutes and turned it off because it was dull and boring and a Mario Party rip off
1.Sonic Labrthyn: This game is probably in my top 3 worst games of all time. I don't even think true Sonic fans like this. It has horrible controls and Sonic is slow and thats not what a Sonic game is all about.
5. Sonic Fighters: Not a very good game. Too easy and boring it could be completed in 20 minutes.

My apologies, Chocolate, but Championship's meant to be played in an arcade, and shouldn't be judged solely as a Sonic Gems Collection port. It's not intended as an extensive adventure or anything. There are options to configure (I suppose the arcade maintenance guy has control of those.), and the highest difficulty setting is actually really tough. But anyway, enough of this. That's your opinion, and I have mine. =)
Hmm... My faves would be, in non-order of importance, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Riders 1 & 2, and Sonic Rush 1 & 2. TBH, I haven't even fully completed any of Sonic's 3D platformers, and have yet to make a final judgement about them. Now call me an imposter. XP
Worst games... Uh, I suppose Sonic Spinball, the Mega Drive version of Sonic 3D Blast, a few of the Game Gear games... And for crap's sake, people, how can we forget about that grotesque "port" of Sonic the Hedgehog 1 on the GBA?! Do I dare say "Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis"?!

Well, Chris actually did appear in that game......on a sign.
Oh, it wouldn't have been that bad. The bad part was collecting 100 rings to bring to the sign featuring his ugly mug.DocEggmanNega
OH! That was Chris?!? I actually didn't even noticed who was on the sign. I was just trying to hurry and finish that mission.
Yeah, the Station Square mission with the sign by the pool.
Very lame mission. I can understand 20 rings, but 100? C'mon, I don't wanna do light dash over and over. They could've been kind enough to spread 100 rings across the city and take away that button switch.
My Top 5 fav
5. Sonic Advance 1
4. Sonic Adventure / DX
3. Sonic Adventure 2 / Battle
2. Sonic Rush
1. Sonic CD
My top 5 that stink
5. Sonic Spinball
4. Sonic Schoolhouse (Sadly I bought it when i was young thank god it's gone.)
3. Sonic Pinball Party
2. Sonic 3D Blast
1. Any Sonic Sega Game Gear game. (Unsure if it counts but seriously Sonic sucked on portables until negeo or GBA)

Ironic isn't it that Sonic's games on Sega's handheld were so bad and yet nowadays his best games are on handhelds. The only Game Gear titles I thought were decent were "Triple Trouble" and "Tails's Adventures."
Best:
3. Sonic The Hedgehog 1 (no retarded friends, solo)
2. Sonic Adventure (DX too, but thats almost the same....Best 3D sonic game ever)
1. Sonic CD (dont have it anymore sadly.......but, awesome game)
Worst:

He actually caused one of my deaths, while I was recording.
His use is for 2-player and for someone to abuse when bored. He can ce used to fight bosses while P1 has Sonic avoiding (works up untill the Metropolis boss, after that he cannot help you)

no, thankfully I have not played that
SA1 had more "annoying friends" than SA1. XDDocEggmanNega
How does sonic adventure one have more annoying friends then sonic adventure one, wtf

I think the meant SA2 for the second one.yeah....but, ill say something else, the new games go to my PATHEDIC list, they add a new character in every game, never to be seen again, then its chaos emeralds this game, same for ALL cept a few.....Sonic Team/SEGA needs to get new storylines

Actually SA1 and 2 had the same amount of playable characters, 6 but in SA2 it was just separated into 2 storylines. But with SA1 I have 3 words "Big the Cat." Nuff said.

There, I fixed it to what it was supposed to say.Blasphemy would be saying S3&K, Heroes, or the Rush games are among the worst.Sonic 2 third worst? That's blasphemy sir.
Besides... you can play as Sonic by himself.
Hyper_Hedgehog
I wouldn't say heroes is in the top three worst, but it still ranks among the bad.
Sure it got some right, but it also got some wrong to (especially the constant aid from annoying voices, I think most people would know that Knux should be used when it automatically switched to him). It had the right indgredients, but a bad recipe.
The level design was good, and I like the fact that the levels are all Sonic-like. The special stages being the way to get chaos emeralds was a good thing as well.
The repetition and voice acting weren't. Only difference between Team Sonic and Team Shadow was a few more enemies, nothing else but the character models and team blast. Only thing that got Chaotix out of there is Charmy's thing with the flowers and their levels were more about searching for stuff or Espio's stealth. Team Rose is all but useless, and the most annoying of the groups.
Overall, below average in the range of Sonic games. Nothing really special about it.
(NOTE: You may blame the lame PS2 version for my dislike, but the levels of the GC version I played didn't handle any better)
I didn't notice anything truely differnet besides enemies.
The controls were well though out, but weren't as smooth as you are hinting. I have had several control issues, most which resulted in Sonic & pals failing to jump when told and then wondering why they are going down a bottomless pit. There were many problems with the rail-grinding, usually trying to get them on the rail or switching rails. I also had trouble getting them to land in the right places after the wall jump thing (same input, different outputs).
It may have been faster, but it is hard to notice it when you don't have many chances to go that fast. There was usually a wall or obstacle that just happened to be in the way most of the time.
Only problem with re-using the stages is that they aren't changed very much. Enemy count and type, or things you ahve to find aren't what I call big enough changes. The routes each team took were very similar in many occasions.
I complain about everything bad, and there were some bad voices. Tails & Charmy top the list as the worst, but only a few can be considered good.
Lastly, the problems I have may stem from the lack of a quality version (PS2) and resentment that the 3rd emerald is all but impossible to get due to random glitches and non-cooperative controls on the special stages.
I never had those problems and failures you mentioned. The controls work beautifully for me whever I play. They are pretty swift, yet accurate. Most of the time, rail switching works for me in Sonic games. There plenty of chances to go fast in the game if you know how to play with sill. It isn't just a big roller-coaster ride. Platforming plays a very important role in the game and rewards players of skill with speed and fluid progression through the stages. I guess you should go back and play through the stages again. Sure, alot of the main structure is the same, but there are alot more changes in object placement than you say. That's fine since the stages are lengthier than the stages in other 3D Sonic titles.I didn't notice anything truely differnet besides enemies.

I contest that only the genesis and saturn games could be breezed through. SA2 and SA1 both require a considerable time to get through. Also, SA2 at least had 31 original levels, which is much more than heroes can say, with 5 missions each, and no recycled level design. I got very bored with heroes very quickly, and only played it out to see if the final boss or ending would be worth it. It wasn't.sonicphcI could go through SA 1 or (possibly "and") 2's main modes in a day. To me, that's a breeze.
SA2 had too much genric-looking recycled graphics and and alot of extra missions that weren't that fun. The 31 original levels, but 20 of them didn't even belong in a Sonic game to begin with. They were just shooting and hunting. The 11 speed stages were okay, but most were below par for Sonic standards in terms of length, and 3 of them were ridiculously short.
It's funny how I feel the way you felt with Sonic Heroes, only with SA2 instead. It got old fast! And the ending boss was disappointing.
SA2 may have had 5 missions per stage, but the stage changes for these missions were very minimal and it felt like I was going through the same stage, but with a tedious new task.
I'd rather be able to go through 4 or 5 differentversions of the stages, 4 of which have an alternate mission.
@eggman: The missions were meant to be like that, same level with a different task. SH they said each ahd their own advernture, but that wasn't the case. Plus the levels didn't tie together. Why were they in a jungle one minute, then a random haunted house the next? There was no tie-in between the levels. No cutscene showed why they went there, unless you count a small conversation after they already arrive their reason.
@phc: Gamma had some really fun stages, much better than Eggman or Tails in SA2.
Is there really any recent Sonic final boss that doesn't disappoint? They have all degraded into ramming something with Super Sonic (or spamming the giant robot with Team Blasts, and WTF didn't Knux or tails go super, they do have super forms in past games). In SA, it was chaos, SA2, it was red bludges on the lizard.
