Can I use the old portal if I play with the old figs ?

I am planning to try this out and I need to know If I can play some simple missions.

You can use the Portal of Power that comes with Skylanders SWAP Force to play Skylanders Spyro's Adventure or Skylanders Giants. However, you cannot use the Portal of Power from previous games with Skylanders SWAP Force.
