Hello,

I would like your expert opinions on my PS2 memory card issue.

Weird thing is, the memory card is recognized by the PS2. It can even load a save game while in-game. It just cannot save anymore.

It is an original Sony PS2 memory card.

Is this a known issue? Could it be the memory card, the connection or the console itself? IMO it is really weird that it loads but cannot save...

Thank you for your assistance!

Memory cards can be repaired but it requires physical modification of the card and formatting it, so any data you have saved will be lost in the process, better get a new one and transfer the content from the old one to the new one.

If you can, try borrowing one & see if it does the same problem again. If it does, then it could either be damaged memory card port or some loose wire.

I say just go to Gamestop, they should have some used PS2 memory cards for cheap and just transfer all your games to the other memory card. It work for me when my memory card was full of save data.

@dirktu: so is not "oddly", the one you borrowed is fine, yours is broken; the good part is that you can transfer the data.

Best part is that he doesn`t need to send PS2 in for repairs. You can probably find cheap memory cards, but i recommend you get the official one by Sony.

I would take the card apart and clean the inside.
