Nowadays, I always here gamers say that Halo: Combat Evolve revolutionize FPS on console but to my knowledge, that experience came from Goldeneye on Nintendo 64 which did more for FPS on a console, duel-wield, stealth approach, riding a tank, and Multi-player gaming experience. Few years later, Halo: Combat Evolve release on Xbox 2001, Halo CE did just about everything that Goldeneye did but only a few adjustments such as more movements, more freedom and while I agree Halo CE did more, I also don't see Goldeneye getting enough credit for being unique at it's time despite other FPS games on N64 were also good.

And so gamers, was it Goldeneye or Halo: Combat Evolve in your opinion?

Halo is the better game, but it stood on Goldeneye's shoulders to get there.

Goldeneye was good for multiplayer but I prefer Halo: Combat Evolved more for both Campaign mode and the challenge on trying to beat the game on Legendary Mode

Halo was a MUCH better game, IMO. But time and tech changes. I can give Goldeneye the nod for its obvious role as a progenitor of modern console FPS. The issue is that Goldeneye is SO bad compared to classic PC FPS in my eyes that I can only appreciate it in an academic sense based on its console status

I still think Doom was prefect for consoles. It didn't require input for depth and had a wide arc of auto-aim, it managed to work well across a wide variety of systems.

I thought Quake did that before Doom?

Nope. Although that worked pretty perfectly fine as well for the most part.

I pick Goldeneye for both the single-player campaign and multi. The guns are better, the death effects are hilarious, just an all around better experience. I was never impressed with Halo 1 at all.

Goldeneye for me. I never cared much for Halo or any fps post-5th generation.

Halo CE, easily. Golden Eye wasn't even my favorite FPS on the N64.

Some of the greatest gaming memories of my life were from the multiplayer battles that I had playing Goldeneye 007 with my friends.

I tried really hard to get into Halo, but I never could get into it. I tried every Halo game except the last one and they all left me underwhelmed and not seeing the appeal. To this day, I still prefer to play Goldeneye 007 and Perfect Dark over any Halo game.

So my answer would be Goldeneye 007 by far.

@davillain-:

I could never get into Golden Eye no matter how fun my cousins made it look. The 64 buttons were weird, it was just too hard for me to know what I was doing! Halo CE is so much more user-friendly and with a completely original storyline and universe to call its own. Unlike Golden Eye which was living on the James Bond 007 brand.

Between the two and in my opinion, Halo CE nailed it better.

SINNER!

I agree Halo: CE is the winner. It changed everything. Goldeneye definitely started that path though.

Perfect Dark (and 4 player split screen Doom 64) > Golden Eye. :D

Perfect Dark was an upgraded version of GoldenEye. It didn't have the flavor goldeneye did. So generic.

SP, I guess was generic, but I meant the MP. I used to have more fun with that playing against my cousins than Golden Eye. The weapons just seemed cooler.

Can't argue. PD was a great game. :D

The first time I felt old (and I'm not even old!) was when my little brother was telling me how terrible Goldeneye was and how he couldn't possibly understand why it's "good." That's the game that opened the gates for first person shooters on console, there's no doubt about it, but it sure is hard to play if you don't have a Nostalgia Boost.

Halo is definitely a better game and the evolved (no pun intended) version of the first person shooter on console.

@Renegade_Fury: The guns may have been better but OMG the framerate in Perfect Dark is horrible. It's literally unplayable now.

Damn, I totally forgot to replay this thread, I just been busy playing games.

I agree with you on Halo CE, it was like having a high-end PC at the time cause I didn't have a PC gaming back then, Halo CE was special, I just think Goldeneye doesn't get the same treatment as it should have.

N64 controllers were odd, I can agree to that but for me, I just learn to adapt and just never bother to complain about it. Despite how big the first Xbox controllers were, it was friendly indeed compare to N64 controllers.

Even with the Expansion Pak for N64, it still suffers framerate drops.

GoldenEye was the more important game. And had the better multiplayer.

Halo has aged better. And had the better solo.

Dunno, i'm a Bond nut though.

Technically neither, Quake set the bar.
