Republicans finally accepting that Putin installed Trump as president?

It's something that everyone with a working bullshit detector already knows, but it looks like one of their favorites, Tucker Carlson, has finally admitted it and feels comfortable talking about it.

I don't watch this guy or any right wing propagandist, but I will peruse articles that catch my eye, from time to time.

“So, back in February, you may remember that Joe Biden pledged to destroy the Russian economy. ‘Let’s make them poor,'” Carlson said, calling the president’s sanctions against Russia “counterproductive.” “Of course, this is in retaliation for installing Donald Trump as president.”

So, have we finally reached a point in the make-believe story that Donald Trump was somehow a legitimate president where Republicans are, finally, after 6 years, willing to admit that he was installed by Putin as a puppet? I have a feeling the rhetoric is going to change from "he was the duly-elected president" to "Putin did us and the world a favor by putting Trump into office", or something similar.

Dunno about installing him, but they explicitly tried helping him and wanted him to win.

Yeah, this has been the claim since 2016. It wasn't election fraud, but a massive misinformation campaign funded by Putin/the russian government to support Trump getting into office. Nobody even disputes that this happened as far as I know. What is endlessly disputed by republicans however is Trump's pretty obvious knowledge of it happening at the time.

Sounds like he's damage controlling for Russia still, like saying we're only going after Russia with crippling sanctions in retaliation for their 2016 election interference like there's no other reason we (and the rest of the world) might be doing this, not like there hasn't been some super obvious reasons that's taken huge chunks of the news cycle these last few months that could explain why Russia is being crippled with sanctions.

This is why you don't use someone else's quotes to tell you what somebody said, hear it from the source. You could EASILY hear Carlson's mocking tone. In fact, it's rare to hear him speak without it as mocking is about all he does.
