why do sony have to keep secrets?

why dont sony tell us things? like they waited ages and said that there was nothing about a 40gb ps3 and now sony have said its true why do they keep these secrets?

why cant sony tell us about the 2.0 firmware update? sony got angry when the list of 2.00 features came out in the summer and they just said it was lies. now its october and we all know there will be a 2.0 update but sony wont tell is when they think it will be finished and what features it will have. telling us will only make us excited and be happy.

same with devs why cant they tell us how they are getting on with the games

because it's Sony...they can do whatever they feel...and will!!!

Every business has secrets. If Sony were to come out and say exactly what they are doing, what they are working on, when all their future stuff will come up, and what they plan on doing in the future. Well they would be out of business and that goes for every business as the other businesses would just use that information to permantely one up them.

Its the most effective move in any business.

Get YOU the consumer/customer HOOKED, so then u keep biting for more and more. They dont want to let it out, because then there wouldnt be an 'anticipation'

You don't make announcements like this in gaming. If you announce there is a new, cheaper PS3 coming, nobody will buy the existing one. Then Sony has zero sales. There is a case of an early computer builder. After they're first computer came out, they announced how awesome their next computer was going to be. Nobody bought their existing computer and the company went out of business.

As to announcing future firmware. The problems comes when you start announcing things, find that you actually can't do it and people getting pissed. It's easier to not announce things. When you do announce, it is something for sure coming. Look at Home, they announce it way in advance and all that happens is delays.

the same reason every game ever gets delayed, to build up to it.

plus its so other companies dont know ther secrets either.
