for me it has to be mgs3 that game had everything, great bosses,weapons, level design,story,gameplay and graphics mgs4 had too much shooting and stupid moments,such as those little eye bot things that rolled around :(

totally agree. I dont think MGS3 was overrated it is a great game. MGS1 is my favorite game of all time and it gives me more of a nostalgic feel to it.
I have beaten MGS1 and MGS4, they were both real great games. I am on MGS2, fighting fatman. But to tell you the truth, so far it has been part1. It was unique, refreshing, and by god the story was simply amazing. MGS4 was great too, but for now my favorite is MGS1
I would have to go for MGS4, because the others just don't feel the same after playing it. I enjoy the setting, boss fights and story of MGS3 the most, but the gameplay of MGS 4 is perfection.
I just picked up Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection so I'll get back to you. I've only played the NES version and PS1 version. PS1 was way ahead of its time, and is my favorite so far.
man everyone made such good points in this post... at first i thought for sure mgs4 is my fav but then i thought about it and i LOVED mgs1 when it came out on ps1, that was a CLASSIC game... and i played mgs2 ALOT for ps2 i loved that game as well... and mgs3 had such great gameplay and story and the time it was taken place in and the boss fights were great... its way too hard for me to decide i just cant do it! theyre all equal to me!
MGS3 for me. It had the best setting, the most interesting new gameplay mechanics and by far the best story. MGS4 only misses out on being my favourite due to the story buckling a little under it's own weight (it did have 10 years worth of loose plot threads to tie up, after all) and it being less focusing on the actual stealth.
MGS3, Solid Snake is freaking lame and annoying and Big Boss is one of the greatest characters ever created. The character you play as is the only real difference I see in the games ha ha.

Solid...is lame? And Annoying? Do explain please... I know he has the throat cancer voice, but other then that he's a stone cold badass. :P
MGS3, Solid Snake is freaking lame and annoying and Big Boss is one of the greatest characters ever created. The character you play as is the only real difference I see in the games ha ha.

Just my opinion shouldn't matter to you, he just annoys me, Big Boss is much better.
