Has anyone tried to see if the PS3 will recognize the My Book? I was thinking about getting a 1tb for back for all my computers and was wondering if the PS3 would recognize it so I could use it to back up my data as well and for a nice swap location when I put in a new HD for my PS3 down the road.

I don't want to use it as a dedicated drive for my PS3 but as a easy way to carry around my MP3s, Videos, Pictures, large files and backup storage for all 4 of my computers and PS3?

I have a Seagate 320GB external and it works fine with the PS3. Only trick to it is you have to format the drive into FAT32 cause it won't see it under NTFS.

For external hard drives, the PS3 only recognizes one formatted FAT32(I think). I'm not sure, but there may be limitations in the size of a hard drive formatted FAT32. Like it will only recognize 100 GB of it or something.

Obviously I'm not very sure about my answers. I'm sure others know more.

If I can remember my IT training, I believe FAT32 only works for a certain number of MB's or GB's but doesn't reach to 320GB like my HDD. It doesn't even give you the option to format under FAT32 either. So, I did some searching and found a software that formats any huge GB's HDD's into FAT32. I would give you the name of the software but I'm not at home right now. But do some searching and you'll find what you need.

When you format your hard drive then it will erase everything. You have to back up you media if your going to format your hard drive. I had a 500GB My Book hard drive and it worked perfectly with my PS3.

I got a 750 gb western digital my book, it came preformatted in fat 32. I just plugged it in my ps3 usb port, and it worked like a charm. It even turns on and off with my ps3.

Actually picked up the 320GB from Office Depot marked down to $99. Works like a charm!
