...will it work? Out of principal I'm not going to pay £15/20 to transfer my saves with a cable when Sony easily could have - should have - included an inbuilt memory card adaptor.

So will I be able to use my PS2 MaxDrive to transfer save data to the PS3 hard drive?

Thanks for the help.

If the correct inputs are there then it should work. Meaning a USB port. Unless you want to burn your saves onto a cd and put then in the correct folder for the PS3 to recognize them.

I could be wrong on this...but MaxDrives might not put the files into a format recognizable by the PS3. I think they make them .max files, and from what i've heard these wont show up. I dont have one so i don't know. I bought the memory card adaptor, transferred my stuff, and then took it back hehe

Keep it, I mean, you could end up replacing your harddrive if it messes up and you may end up using it again. Also, your friends may come over with a PS2 memory card and you forgot you sold your PS3/PS2 memory card adaptor.

All of my PS2 saves are already backed up on my laptop hard drive in case of a hard drive failure. In the 3 years I've had a PS2, I've never once used a friends memory card, so I guess I'm just assuming history will continue with this trend. And besides, if my friends go come over...they're most likely gonna want to play ps3 games, since they can play ps2 whenever they want.

PS3 virtual memory cards looks for a .PSV file

.cbs, .max, .xps2 and so on will not work cause they need the actual program to decode it.

Personally, it kinda ticks me off, the fact that it doesn't transfer in it's original format, and only that of the cheat disk. I've been searching for programs to do it manually (since it's impossible to find an adaptor), but I've only come across how to transfer .PSV back to PS2 and not the other way around. But just give it time, it'll pop up soon.

I think that's only worth buying the adapter if you are still going to use the ps2 games allot
