Ok so here's the deal for those of you who may not be familiar with the project...

A couple years ago SONY requested a patent for a Direct Brain Interface - at the time it was speculated that it would be a way to hardwire your brain into a gaming console. Now before you freak out - SONY has come a long way with it's research and now is working on a gaming system that will be non-invasive, meaning you won't have to have any implant or anything like that. Instead the new technolgy they are working on will directly control your brain synapses through an electronic strobe effect that will interact with your brain through your forehead without having to have any medical or biological modifications done to your body. There are other companies working on similar research for medical purposes - but so far SONY is the only company I am aware of that is actively pursuing this type of technology for the gaming masses.

Sound like Science Fiction? Just remember that all Science Fact usually starts out as an idea which was at one time fiction.

First here is a quote to wet your appetite and then a link to a small article:

"Are you ready to take gaming to the next level? Apparently Sony is. Imagine getting the sights, smells, tastes, and feelings of a game beamed directly to your brain."

http://delphiki.blogspot.com/2005/04/brain-games-sony-gets-patent-for-brain.html

So I ask you - when this technology hits whenever it may be - who will be the console winner then? :)

Sign me up for Beta testing SONY!!!

I remember seeing a trailer about the playstation 9 lol. It showed a guy who held a orb (which is the console) than he warps into a realistic but virtual city. Yeah he does some kung fu stuff it was real nice made me say wow but I doubted it at first.... now I honestly don't know...

Make that 3 or 4 changes. As for the technology, imagine if it ever launched. How much would it cost, better yet how cool would it be? That would be crazy..

Yeah - and like the article said - start saving now. My guess is in order to get it to market it would have to be a somewhat real price point. What I mean is would you pay $5,000 to $10,000 for a system that did that? I know I sure as heck would - in fact I wouldn't even need a house anymore just give me a tent with an electrical outlet by it and I would go into permanent retirement. LOL

I seriously hope this comes to market even if it is in 10 to 20 years. I've gotta give SONY serious props for completely pushing the envelope of what people think is possible. :)
