Sorry haters, SOCOM 4 multiplayer is AWESOME!

I love the old SOCOM games and miss a lot about them that was changed in SOCOM 4, but regardless, SOCOM 4 online is pure incredibly fun tactical multiplayer greatness!!!!

(I am talking about Classic Mode though - I haven't bothered to touch Standard Mode).

The first few games I didn't know if I liked it or not but after about 4 or 5 games I was having a really great time. It's really great fun.

I do think head shots are a little to easy to get and the camera bugs me when I'm backed up to something...how it zooms in and out. But you get used to it I guess.

It's only going to get better too...I bet they start adding maps and stuff pretty soon. I have a code for some kind of download but the store is down still so I have no idea what it is.

Obviously it needs a party system, the camera is no good and do you guys feel the aiming could use work? When you move left to right it starts off very slow then bam your crosshairs fly to the side really quickly. Co op is amazing by the way I had my first playthrough yesterday :)

The headshots definitely need to be be fixed its really annoying how the majority of the kills are headshots.

Sorry, but you clearly need to spend some time back on Socom 2. There are about 150 people nightly playing (at least there was during the PSN outage). The difference in the gameplay is night and day vs Socom 4: 1) Single mode maps are far better and provide a far better gameplay atmosphere. It puts you right in the shoes of Seals or terrorists. 2) The only scopes are on sniper rifles and one or two assault rifles with a heavy breathing motion. In other words, not a lot of sniping or laying in bushes. The game is very close quarters. 3) The rounds rarely last 5 minutes and usually are over in 2.5-3 minutes. No sitting there waiting for someone to decide to move out of whatever bush they are hiding in. 4) Socom 4 game modes are right out of COD. There is nothing more going on in classic Socom 4 than there is in COD Search and Destroy. IMO Socom 4 is not a great Socom, but the standard respawn mode is better than current COD games.-ArchAngeL-777-

I don't even use a scope assault rifle....it does not seem to really help imo. In fact the movment seems off when you use a scope imo and I keep going in to zoom when I don't want to. So I just took it off. :)

No but if you had played Socom 2, then you would know why the vets of the series don't like Socom 4. More to the point, you would know why there are a lot of Socom 4 haters. The series has never been the same since Socom 3, when Zipper decided to go to multi-mode maps and put scopes on everything. Notice how there isnt any Breach, Extraction, or Escort modes? These are all classic Socom modes that were ruined by Mulit-mode maps. No one played them because the multi-mode maps couldn't be configured to make viable maps for these mode. they were a joke. Zipper had to can them and go to COD style modes like Uplink. If you like Socom 4 thats fine, but these are the reasons long-time fans of the series dont like it. Ironically, most vets play the Socom 4 standard respawn mode over classic mode. Its better than current COD gameplay. I know how you feel...I hate that they changed Ghost Recon. It's a whole different game than what it was when it first came out. But am I going to skip the next one....nope. Because it's a different game than what it was years ago does not mean I can't enjoy it for what it is. IMO should it be called Ghost Recon? Nope but it is what it is.

its not a problem with the game being too different fromt he rest its that this has lost its identity, its just another repetitive shooter in the crowd of terrible generic shooters, im disapointed in zipper, after mag i thought they were the only people that coud get a online games thats tactical

The problem the old school fans are having is that it's different than it was. I get it. It's still a good game (at leat the multiplayer)and a lot of fun.

I like Socom, but the online play is slightly dissapointing. I think it is because I am not use to all the online funtionality of XBL, but I'm getting used to it. The actual gameplay is very fun though! Quick question, whats the difference between classic game modes and the standard game mode?

IMO Socom 4 is WAY better than Gears of War's multiplayer.

SOCOM is great, personally its a solid 8.5/10... still havent finished the sp campaign, but online is great... Co-op can be so much fun specially with friends

Forget about the true veterans and try to cash in on Call of Duty players who DO-NOT-CARE about Socom = low scores = low sales = small community = DLC pricing is pointless = low profit. But I'm not surprised if they do profit on it, because the game feels so low budget to the point where they couldn't get the rights to use real life gun names. Pathetic. Zipper, thanks for Socom 2 but I think you should stick to making PSP games.

Actually the community is really starting to kick in, I have yet to play a game that was not full. No one uses mics so that is a little annoying because it does show the more casual gamer is playing but hey, you work with what you got. I just hope people that really like playing some Socom eventually get off theirhigh horses and make the new Socom as the old ones were.

If you were to say the single player is garbage then I would sayI agree with you 100% because it is total crap.

But to say that the multiplayer is garbage is just crazy. It's a great game for online play and you sound like an old school vet pissed off because they didn't make the game you expected. I understand that feeling...it was the same for me with Ghost Recon.

Well it's WAY better than gears as well. I like GoW but for online I would take Socom anyday over GoW.

Well Uncharted's single player from what I hear anyway is really good. Socom's single player is crap so yeah Socom's not going to be GOTY for anyone. Still the Socom 4 multiplayer is great. And winning 100 GOTY awards is not going to make it more fun for me.

Wow. I wont get in to this. But fundamentally Gears is light years ahead of SOCOM 4 in multi player. Uncharted multi player has a few quirks. Hopefully they will fix them for U3. ACx7

No, please do. I want to hear how Gears is "light years ahead" of Socom 4. I reeeealy want to know. I have played every gears and imo the Socom multiplayer is MUCH more fun than gears. Now single player is a different story but how you can say that "fundamentally Gears is light years ahead of SOCOM 4 in multi player" is just beyond me.

I tried the beta and didn't care for it at all. Is the retail version better? (I'm more of a Killzone 3 kinda' guy.)donalbane

I didn't get to play the beta so I can't say but I know they patched a few things before it came out.
