That's not stand by. It's ON. ON: Green & Blue light. Stand by: RED light. OFF: No light.

misquoted. i meant to say that i leave mine on standby all the time. and what i meant by on, was the green light blue light, which is not what i meant when i said i leave mine on standby.

most of the time i turn it on once and off once, on whenever the heck i decide to use it and off before bed, sometimes i leave it on for a couple days though when i'm downloading big things like hd shows or movies. and discs come out as soon as i'm done using them. this brings heat for me at least when i leave one in a long time.

Even if I leave it on, I set the shut off timer for like 3 hours. I don't know why people don't use that feature.

I leave my 60 gig on 24/7 (not in stand-by, but fully powered up). Been doing this for about three years now and have never had a problem. Also I leave disc in the drive all the time without a problem. The key is to maintain a amount of heat that reduces thermal stress and make sure the heat can flow out through the rear vents freely.

Why would anyone leave it on 24/7 boggles my mind. Do people have any idea how much power they would save if they turned it off, or how much they would be helping the environment? If you're not using the thing turn it off or leave it on stand by. Same applies to other kinds of electronics.

I guess a lot of people are just too lazy to get up and turn the switch off. I know that applies to me. :P

Not really because it has nothing to do with being lazy or getting up to turn the system off (this can be done with the controller at any time). I leave mine on to run F@H when I'm not using the system. If this program helps find a cure for one deasese then it is well worth the very small amount of power it uses while F@H.

There's really no reason to turn it completely off. Mine is always in standby, unless I'm playing it of course.

I usually turn it on once a day when I go to play it and turn it off once a day when I'm done :P My Slim is obviously always in standby mode and I used to always keep my 80GB in standby mode, but since I got my Slim I only have the 80GB on standby when I'm gonna play PS2 games.

I usually don't turn it on/off more then once a day, turn it on, do my gaming, if I take a little break to eat or whatever I leave it on, then only when I'm finished I turn it off, and when it's off I hit the back switch, no reason to leave it in stand by mode, it's a waste of energy, much people say that it uses so little energy that it doesn't matter, but imo it's the same as a dripping tap, you look at it and see that it's just a small drip of water falling every 3 or so seconds and think "ehh, that's nothing", but leave a bucket in there for 2 hours and you'll see how much water you're wasting, let alone for days, weeks...

I generally leave mine on stand-by (red light) when not playing, but will turn it off (switch in the back) when I know I won't be playing for a while.

When I am not using it, its always unplugged, saves a lot of energy that way, and energy is tight at my house.

I turn it on when I want to play a game and off when I'm done. I never leave it on when I'm not using it. I use the botton in the front;I only turn the switch off in the back if I'm going to unplug it or something.
