It's fairly quiet. Just keep the room at a decent temperature and you should be fine. =)

mine is pretty quiet. Occasionally you can here the fans kick up a little bit after many hours playing, but it soon goes back to normal. In fact, last time it did that I cleaned off all the dust with a hoover (very carefully) and it has not done it since. Other than fan noise, disk reading and slight HD noise, the PS3 is pretty quiet. With the sound up on your TV, you really should not notice the console.

well mine made a really loud noise 3 days before it died. i think one of my fans blew out that night when it made the extra loud noise. because the mother board was melted when a repair man tried to fix it.

My 60GB makes some pretty loud noise only when the fireplace or the heat is on in the house. The fan goes pretty hardcore, but it doesnt sound bad or anything. Once it starts clicking or grinding then I'll get worried. lol

General fan noise is quite normal for a console really, not really noticeable when your actually playing the game but for some reason one disc of mine will make a lot of noise when loading etc for some strange reason.

mine is as loud as a hairdryer even if i leave it in open space. i phoned sony about it today though, they're going to service it for free, but it'll probably end up coming back with the same problem as they didn't fix anything the first time i sent it in.

is yours under warranty or something? my fans make a decent amount of noise... nothing that bothers me when im playing a game with the volume up but its annoying during silence... itd be nice if theyd look at mine for free, but i bought it used... so i doubt it.

My 60GB sometimes does. The fan randomly switches between quiet and loud during DVD's. During games I can barely hear it.

at first, they fixed it out of good will so i guess i got an automatic 90 day warranty with it. it wasn't stated on the sheet of paper i got when the ps3 came back though. the customer rep told me on the phone today they'd fix it for free so i'm assuming i'm under warranty. just ring up sony and tell them what's up with your ps3. i had to put my phone next to the PS3 vent to show them how loud it was.

My slim is so quiet you can barely hear it even with the TV muted, and my 60gb is louder when not playing a game, and then it gets even louder when playing a game. It's still fairly quiet though

Loud, but not loud enough to drown out everything else if I'm playing it during the day. If I'm playing at night, though, when it heats up and the fans kick in...it will be louder than the TV with the volume low. I don't remember it being that loud when I got it.

Very quiet, almost as quiet as my ps1... much quieter than my computer.. so long as the temperature is 72 degrees and my fan is on =D, if it gets warmer or the fan's off, It's fan(s?) will start going up, and become just barely noticeable over my computer's sound.

Nope, it's quiet 4/5ths of the time. The fans pick up if I play longer then normal, but it's rare.

Don't worry. If your PS3 is not overheating it is not a problem to hear some noise, when i say overheating in not reffering to how hot the exterior is i mean the system shutting donw by itselft and the power light flasing. I got a Slim and thought the noise was somewhat loud and after having luck with the GameStop people were i bought it i replace it with a second one and to my surprise it stil the same, not as quite as i was hearing and expecting. Plus after doing some online reasearch i'd found that most of the early PS3s have a Delta Fan that compress the sound coming out of the unit and the newers have a Nidec Fan that is more noisey and don't compress the sound, so it is 50/50 of probability to get the one that makes less noise.

Mine runs fairly quiet. Just don't be foolish and play it all day. Give it some breaks now and then.

I have a fat and a slim. Both run quiet, both sometimes make a few weird noises when loading particular games or movies.
