I've got an original PS3, which I got in 2007, and I'm looking to sell it to fund buying a ps4. I don't know how much it's worth so some feedback would be welcomed. It's in full working condition and I replaced the original 40gb hard drive with a 640gb other than that no changes.

I tried that (here in Finland that is). It was too late, no-one wanted it, I have a bunch of games too. Still got it, it's collecting dust with my two X360s.

# Sounds like you have a 3rd generation Phat PlayStation 3 console. The first run of PlayStation 3 40Giggers came with the sixaxis controller with the rumble. and the Spiderman 3 Blu ray movie. Your PS3 does not feature the backwards compatibilities of the first generation PlayStation 3 60 and 20 giggers, Nor the second generation Ps3 60 and first run 80 gigers. These version featured software PS2 emulation. Instead of Hardware B/C of the fabled launch 60 GB and 20 GB. all of these feature 4 USB ports and the Chrome finish. Instead of the plain dull grey Plastic finish of the PS3 40GB and second issue PS3 80 gigger which only have 2 USB ports.

But since you have a first issue PS3 40 Gigger. It is one of the most robust models of PS3 consoles. Which is why it is still kicking in 2015 while many of the launch era PS3 have since died. Plus you have replaced the 40GB HDD with a 640 GB HDD so that will help somewhat, As Sony never released a PS3 with a HDD larger than a 500GB HDD

So your best option is to sell it on eBay along with your PS3 games and extra controllers/other extra your may have such as PS Eye or Fighting sticks as a lot on Ebay or craigslist.

You may get $150.00 towards your PS3. It is unfortunate that you don't have a slim since Gamestop is offering $175.00 for you PS3 if it is 250GB or higher. But it has to be a Slim or SuperSlim Model.

Good luck on selling your PS3 and getting a PlayStation 4. You will like the PS4.

I know you wanted me to PM you, but the reason I wanted to sell 'em was because I wanted a PS4. I saved up for it and bought it because I couldn't get a decent price out of the two, I don't know if I'm selling them anymore.

You got the 3rd generation Fat PS3 (Oct. 2007) with the sixaxis controller rather than the better dualshock controller. No backward compatibility but replaced the 40GB hard drive with 640GB hard drive. The 60GB backward compatible PS3 are only selling for $120 on ebay right now. I just looked on ebay. I definitely don't see any $400 backward compatible PS3 around even if it was brand new.

You would get like $110-120. For that low price, you are better off keeping it because you can always play your old games, still purchase older ps3 games for dirt cheap from a huge library of great games, use PS+ features on PS3 (in case you get PS+ for PS4) and the PS3 is a great entertainment media center even though I think the Fat PS3 tend to be much louder than the slim and super slim. The PS3 is still considered to be better entertainment media center than the PS4.

Even with games, $120 might be a hard sell unless you can find the right buyer. Last gen consoles are going for peanuts. I suggest just keeping it unless that $100~ is going to mean the difference of whether or not you buy a PS4

Maybe the least is $100 you'll get for selling it. My brother sold his PS3 Slim for $120 a few months before the PS4 was released.

I just recently purchased a PS3 Slim because I wanted to play those games again! The current generation of consoles have been kind of disappointing...in my opinion.

I sold my upgraded slim PS3 (with a 500 GIG Hard Drive), all cables and 1x DS3 for $170.
