Questions about Metal Gear Solid

Hey, I'm currently finishing metal gear solid 1 & 2. I'll be done before June 12th, but I was wondering if playing MGS3 is neccessary to understand certain stuff in MGS4. I know MGS3 is like a presequel to the first one, but I'm worried I'll be missing out on certain story elements when playing MGS4. Help is appreciated, thanks.

Yes you will beacause Oclot is in tehre and EVA returns etc.

You also really need to play it! Its my fav of the series
