My PSP Slim will hold as many files as space allows for on the MS Duo, but each of the media folders (video, music, pictures) will only show the first 1000. Does anybody know of a way to get past this?

I have various sizes of MS Duo that I keep for storing larger videos like movies and tv seasons I rip from my dvd collection. But I use an 8 gig for all my permanent everyday use PSP activity. I was considoring getting a 16 gig MS Duo but it seems that regardless of how much space you have free, only the first 1000 files in each of the root folders will show up on the PSP desktop.

For example:

If I have 1256 pictures stored on my PSP, only the first 1000 show up on the PSP and the last 256 are invisible. They are still stored on the device, but the PSP will not let the ones after 1000 show up while using the XMB, even if I have several gigs free.

The same goes for music and videos. Even with plenty of free space, only the first 1000 show up on the PSP. I have a lot of crashes and wipeouts from YouTube, and some are as short as 4-12 seconds, so it's easy to accumulate hundreds and hundreds of small videos while not taking up a whole lot of space.

Is there a way around this other than moving excess to another MS Duo? I like to keep stuff together and don't want to split up certain directories. Does anyone know if Firmware 5.0 allows for more than 1000 files to appear in a root directory? I use 3.90.

I was considoring getting a 16 gig MS Duo so I could condense some of my 1 and 2 gig MS Duo and just add it all to my main one (currently 8 gig which isn't big enough) to store it all. In my case a 16 gig MS Duo won't help me out, since only 1000 of each filetype is allowed. It's very easy to accumulate several hundred pictures either by dumping a digital camera, or by downloading pictures from a website, it seems to me that 1000 files is not a whole lot to choose from when you could potentially have many more.

How do I get past this annoying obstacle and make the rest of the pictures and videos display without splitting directories up into various MS Duo? Does anybody else atleast have this issue? Or annoyed by the limited number of slots allowed? I have Googled and have found nothing related to this.

I know Ipods do this, I think the 180 gig Ipods held up to 40,000 mp3s but no more than that regardless of freespace. The smaller or medium sized Ipods have a cutoff of 20,000 songs. I think my 2nd generation Nano had a 4000 song limit. What is this term called?

WOW! 1000 still man I had no idea there was a limit, In fact I still have a 2G ha ha, so I only have 347 songs on it. 7 pics and a god of war game demo.

But now that I think about it I think It does it to keep you from using Copyrighted matiral for instance It may be sony thought if that guy has 1000 songs he probibly got them illigaly so they made a limit.

I think i have an answer for you. It might show the additional photos if you make additional folders in the PICTURE folder labeled different categories. For instance if you have a lot of pictures of the outdoors make a folder labeled "outdoors" INSIDE of the PICTURE folder and put all the outdoors pictures in that folder. But you could of course label them whatever you like: maybe "first 200 pics" or something like that. The same goes for grouping songs in to individual "album folders" in the MUSIC folder. When ever you have a problem like this it can usually be solved by moving folders around. Although im not sure if the same applies for videos, try it out see what happens.

Remove some pictures ? :?

You can't possibly need that many pictures with you at all times... Another option would be to create subfolders, but I think you can't do that with a PSP.

Hey thanks for the replies. I have made numerous themed folders and they still cut off at file number 1000. I have about 20-30 folders in pictures, and in videos I have about 8-10 folders all themed appropriately but the 1000th video is the last video displayed and any other videos within that folder would be invisible, and any folder after that folder would also be invisible as well as the files that would be inside it.

So pretend I have a total of 8 folders and 1200 files within those 8 folders, and the last 2 folders both have 150 pictures each (total of 300 files in the last 2 folders). The last folder to show up on the XMB would be Folder 7 and it would display only the first 100 files (file_number_900.mp4 to file_number_1000.mp4) inside that folder. The 8th folder (and it's 150 files) would be completely invisible and unaccessable through the PSP's XMB as well as the last 50 files of the previous folder (Folder 7).

Maybe it's a density issue with the MS Duo or the PSP firmware. But the MS Duo still holds the excess pictures/videos that the PSP cannot display. Because when I plug the PSP into the PC, they show up in the Windows Explorer.

I guess I need to compromize and split up some files and stretch them out on several MS Duo. Also, the PSP doesn't allow subfolders, or atleast with my firmware (3.90) it won't. Subdirectories become invisible.

Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody was annoyed by this limit on the PSP. It's not a big deal to spread files out over 2 MS Duos, but it would also be very convenient to be able to take advantage of a 16 gig MS Duo and condense many files to fit on to just one.. I guess I'll be holding off on a 16 gig MS Duo until I am ready to download some PSX games at the Sony Store or whatever.

I've only ever had a few dozen audio files on my PSP at a single time. One time I put WMA files on my PSP and I had to allow permission to connect to the server, probably so it could spy on me and keep a database somewhere. It was kind of weird, but not related to my other problem of squeezing more than 1000 files in Picture and Videos folders.

well if you're on 3.9 firmware, try updating to like 5.0 or whatever the latest is (i stopped caring after 4). it might fix your problem.
