This is happening now.

Sony is taking PSN down for 12 hours in order to a undergo major database upgrade.

During this time you may:

• Not be able to access the PlayStation®Store
• Have difficulty signing in to the PlayStation®Network
• Not be able to play online games
• See a maintenance page when attempting to access the PlayStation®Network

Do you think this could possible be in preperation for xrossgamechat ?

netflix without a disc would be nice.

According to this blog (http://blog.eu.playstation.com/2010/08/27/playstation-network-maintenance/) you can play online. Haven't tried it though...

i doubt we will get cross game chat :(

this is probably why red dead redemption doesnt work for me, cant figure it can be naything else and psn gets error also

i played online with ninja gaiden 2, later i tried to use PSN store and it's tells me that it's not available on my region, i tried 4 acount (US,UK,AE,JP).

so it's down for 12 hrs since when ? i mean how many hours left :p

Either it's some features added or it could be patches/fixes for recent hackers issues.

Either way, 12 hours is long time for simple update, we'll see soon enough.

So it ends 3:30PM EST.... I wonder what this will be.

better be something worth the 12 hours :evil:

guys, not to burst ur bubbles about wat u think it might have been, but lets not have high hopes for stuff lol, cuz it could be just reg maintenance....where they just makin sure everythin is smooth and wat not. so before we get too excited and then go off cursing sony out lol cuz it wasnt for anythin we assumed . Thanks fella. I was getting mighty frustrated. It would be sporting of Sony to display a brief text saying "maintenance" rather than an error number. Second_Rook

thank goodness i'm back in college now where i wont have time to play right now, so i'm not missing out on much

thinking it has something to do with stoping jailbreak since the court order expires on Aug, 31

It's maintenance, not even a firmware update.

I hope its a change up of the xmb interface but that can just be wishful thinking, I want a XMB interface change more then anything more then cross game chat even if I gotta be a playstation plus user lol.

They're probably trying to do something about that jailbreak modchip.

So this means no buying stuff? Or does it effect online play? (Tells you how often I play MP anymore! Heh Heh)

I also have no idea what a jailbreak mod chip is, but it doesn't sound good. Every time someone comes up with a new way to steal stuff or otherwise cheat, I just cringe. It's not that I am afraid of online cheating (see above statement), but more that stealing and cheating are justifications for companies and devs to raise their prices - Look at the BS concerning resale games and online licenses. People who cheat end up ****ing us all.

Speaking of PSN, when do they release "Lara Croft" for us? It's already out on the competition's console DLC.

So when will PSN be up again, I want to get to PS home.

if its supposed to beup at 3:30 pm est, shouldnt it be running by now?

I doubt it's cross game chat. Sony would've most likely announced it. It's most likely some PSN+ junk.
