PS4, nice specs, not so nice looks

So, I really liked the look of the original PS3, all glossy and curvy.  It just makes me wonder why the PS4, and XB1 for that matter, are so square and incredibly plain looking.  Any thoughts of where the style went with this new generation of consoles? :?

Big hot running components require big cases designed with venting in mind.

Unfortunately that means the design of it will be limited as cooling and performance takes priority. 

Yea, these new consoles are so absent of design/color and shine that I think we might just loose track of them in a low lit movie room, lol. Where does the disc go again? lol

As long as it is reliable, that's good enough for me

A box is a box.  Both are presentable and fit in with your living room gallery of electronics.

At least this one doesn't look like it'll show finger prints. Something that always bothered me with my original PS3.

I'm probably one of the few people who actually likes the ps4 design. Love the Aztec, parallelogram look of it.cosmicwave

I like the design, as in the shape, of the console, but I don't like that it's matte instead of glossy.

I wish they would have gone glossy, and made the vents chrome.  Also, instead of embroidering "Sony" and "PS4" I would've preferred that they illuminated them with soft blue light.  That would've made for a sexy PS4, IMO.

same. i think it looks like a futuristic ps2, plus design doesnt matter anyway, it's all about what it can do.

Just asthetically speaking of the hardware itself, I would have to say this is probably the best looking Playstation IMO.

PS4 is one of the better looking game consoles (period) for that matter.

Agreed. Even more impressive when you see it next to the XBO. I hope Sony's had testers running games on those things for months on end. Never had a problem with any console I've owned, let's keep that steak going.[spoiler] [/spoiler]

I disagree. This is the best looking Sony console since the original Playstation. I really don't know what they were thinking with the PS2 and PS3 designs. They are so random and bizarre to me

I like the look, but I still think the PS3 and PS3 slim are the best of the lot. There is very little difference between the PS4 and PS2, just instead of lots of gorves its one small one in the middle and slightly slanted

The PS4 and PS2 really look nothing alike in my eyes. The PS4 is a aleek slanted box while the PS2 is a box with a bunch of ridges protruding from it with a smaller box jutting out the bottom. The PS2 remains to this day the ugliest system I ever set eyes on. It's as anti-sleek as it gets... Good thing it was such a good system.

The PS4 is literally 2 of these on top of each other slanted and with a line of definition between the two.

based off the way the console looks on the back end, it looks like the mobo will be upside down with a giant heatsink facing towards the bottom of the case.

It looks like the heatsink may run the length of the unit where whe air inputs may be below the front of the case.

1) What does it matter what it looks like? If the games are good what does how the system looks matter? Do you spend all your time staring at your system and use it for decoration?

2) Glossy sucks. It shows every finger print and dust particle.

3) I like how ps4 looks. It has a retro ps2 kind of style to it.
