EE is Emotion Engine. Its is the name of the CPU in the PS2. It is how we can play our PS2 games without specialized software. Without it, backwards compatibility, or the amount of last-gen games we can play on the PS3, drops.
Why would they want to take it away? Also when are they going to take it away from the Ps3?ENIXMAN
to reduce cost. Sony can almost match the EE's backward compatibility with a software package. by removing the EE from the PS3, they reduce the manufacturing cost of the PS3. this, in turn, lowers the amount of money they are losing on each PS3 that is sold.
As a consumer, PS3s with EE will have the most backwards compatibility. Meaning, you can play more of your old games on the PS3 with very few or no problems.
It really doesnt affect me. I only have 11 PS2 games, most I dont play but all are compatible. But over 70 percent seems rather reasonable. If it were something like 50 or less then yes, definite shaft, but its not, so save yer money if you need to Sony.

Argggh, I wish I knew when they are going to do it......because I was going to buy my ps3 in October... and I love all my ps2 games!
Sony has made no official announcement that this willl happen.... yet... But if your looking to get a PS3 and BC is important to you, buying one soon is a good idea

By October who knows they may be at 80% or so, only time will tell... But by then you would've beaten GOW2 if you haven't beaten it already, and you'll have a massive list of PS3 titles to kill your time.

72% of PS2 games that were released in Europe will play on the PS3. Some have problems but they do play. would you call that awful? yes, yes i would. I hope you don't plan on buying the "other" system with its 27% BC rate.
Through updates the PS3 without EE is just as good as good as the PS3 with the EE! This isn't the 360's case because Nvidia was in the Xbox 1 and the 360 has ATI so there were contractual disagreements which is why the BC emulation in 360 sucks.
Alzo i heard the EE manufacturing plant was updated to produce only Cell's. You don't see GM or Ford making muscle cars with their factories now adays you see them making econo "fisher price" cars with all tha plastic n stuff! So itz only natural and allows Sony to push the Cell into selected inudstry's faster!
