PS3 stops reading disk!!! Can anyone help?

Okay I just came off the phone with a friend who said he was playing COD4 when his ps3 blacked out. He restarted the ps3 and in the top right corner it said ps3 disk error 800 & something w/e. He also said that the ps3 still connects online, but when you put in any other disk whether blu-ray movie, a ps3 game or an audio cd the icon shows in the top right corner but never reads the cd's. Anyone knows what the problem is here and how it can be fixed??

Yeah unfortunately this has happened to me as well. I got box from Sony today So I will be sending it out hoping I get it back by next Monday or so. I wonder if the last update (2.60 screwed up systems) I own the 60 GB model

If it is not still under warranty, you could try to fix it yourself. Here is a link to a thread that tells you how to fix many problems that could happen with the PS3.

my 60 gb is having the same problem it only reads the disk half the ime and says error 80010514 or something like that, i don't know if i should send it in or wait to see if it gets fixed. Plus GTA4 is coming out this month and i don't think ill get it back by then.kars11052
