well guys I guess it's beyond reviving now.

After all those auto shut downs.. my ps3 has finally got YLOD..

Do you guys think I should just get slim now? do you guys notice any improvements that slim has over the old models?

For those who have Uncharted 2.. does it run smoother and not as loud on the slim?

If I activate my account on the new console, will my mp stats be recovered?

oh and one more question.. this is probably a long shot.. but say I take out the old hard drive and place it in an external case, will I be able set it to recovery mode, even though I didn't run the backup process?

I hope mine YLOD's before march, so warranty covers it. not that I want my ps3 to die.

My 60GB YLOD a couple of weeks ago. I went ahead and bought the 250GB slim (it is dead silent which is nice). Other than losing my save games, the most disappointing thing about it was that I made the mistake of buying a few movies off the PSN video store. I thought I'd be able to download them again (needless to say I will not be buying videos from PSN anymore).

At some point I will fix my YLOD using the heat gun method just to get a few saves off of the old 60.

Sorry it happened to you, too. I got almost 3 years out of mine.

I hear PLENTY of people getting the YLOD as of lately..or maybe it's just now coming out. I know it took the 360 a year or so before it was found out about it's issues. So I guess as the PS3's user base grows and people start putting more hours on the PS3 they'll realize it's not as reliable as people think. Much better reliability wise than the competition but where's the 3 year warranty?

^^^ after initial DOA replacement, one DVD drive fix and one RROD on my 360, i've had it since aussie launch which is now going on almost 4 years (i think it'll be 4 years this march if i am right?or am i one year to many?)

I used the heat gun method and it worked great for about 2 weeks then it died again so i fixed it and put it on ebay got $120 for it, I think the gun I was using didn't get hot enough to reflow the solder good enough
