I was gonna ask the same question. I actually got a PS2 this week cause I've been desperate to play some games that I wanted to play. This is really bad if Sony doesn't bring back backwards compatibility to the PS3.

How is it bad?The PS2 console still sells pretty well,in terms of it being a last gen console.If BC did come to the PS3 how good do you expect the games to run?The original 80 gig had to use a software emulation and it can only play 75% of PS2 games and some of them don't run well at all.All the newer versions would have to have the same treatment....The emulation might be better or it might be worst on the new consoles.I am sorry but I would rather have 100% PS2 playability on the PS2 than half-assed PS2 emulation playability on the PS3.
why dont you just get an older first gen 60gig PS3. it dosnt use an emulator like the later 80gigs and it runs 98+% of the PS2 games. hopefully you can find one of those gems. I have mine and its still running perfectly.

Trust me it is ALOT cheaper to just stick with the PS2.People sell 60 gigs for way to much money on ebay.You might be able to find one for a decent price,but it still would be more expensive that a PS2.
does any1 know what eb games do with used consoles befor they resell it ?

Nothing,they usually just take them to a back room and wait for someone to come in and buy it.
i say buy a ps3 on ebay i got the 80 gig and minus the bad look which if u ask me is no big deal cuz its still da same game and plays da same way...do graphix rilly matter???no!!!! and of course its gonna cost more den a ps2 i mean it makes sence 2 because u get more on it then u do on da ps2...but seriously mine plays all da games i put on it so far so i mean 75% is alot bigger den everyone thinx it is and wats wrong wit having both minus the money of course??? cuz i mean i dats ur excuse i aint rich and i still have ps1 2 and 3...all in all, wat u guys r saying is making a good point...but u r just basing it on da graphix and price u get...just get an older ps3 off ebay or sumwhere else if u find one...

You know what.Not only are your points alittle off,so is your spelling.If he already has a PS3 why on earth would he spend the money to buy another one....JUST TO PLAY PS2 GAMES.It makes no sense.Just play your PS2 games on your PS2.Oh and the PS2 is cheaper and it plays 100% of PS2 titles.

thanks but i already have a 40 gig and its way to much work to sell mine and buy another just to play some ps2 games i rather just buy a ps2 witch im prob going to do but not for a while lol im kinda broke

Just buy a PS2 and enjoy the games.The games and the console are cheap.
