i have a 40 gb ps3, got it recently and now some of my friends are telling me that the 40 gb ps3's are somewhat defected and have a problem similar to the 360's rrod. i cant take my friends seriously because none has ps3 all have 360's. but i am little worried is there an issue in the 40 gb ps3's or is this some BS fanboys invented.

No.The way I see it all the PS3 versions can break. The PS3 does have a problem similar to the RROD for the 360.This problem is called the Yellow light of death. The 40 gig is not defected because ALL PS3 version could possibly get it.The rate of getting the ylod is not as high as the 360's failure rate. The PS3 is still a piece of technology so good luck.

They are talking about the YLOD. All PS3's are equally as susceptible, just as all 360's are susceptible to the RROD.

Eventhough all the Ps3's may get a YLOD, i heard that the 60 and 20 gb versions are the ones that break often.. I also own a 40 gb PS3 and i have some kind of good news, it is said the the 40 gb PS3 came with a chipset that reduces the power cosumption. That being said, i guess it's fair enough to conclude that the chances for a YLOD on the 40 gb PS3 are somehow diminished, it may occurs who knows? but this is what the 40 gb PS3 is all about :) go tell your friend about that!!!!
