PS2 games work to PS3???

Some people say, YES they do. Some People say: No not yet. Some people say, only PS1 games but ironic not PS2. Some people say, some games work some don't work. WHAT (?) ---

I mean I have just got my PS3 (5 days ago) so I have jus tbefore tracked x360 and beein pretty "unkown of the PS3 universe" - So I don't know antthing about this... I hope u know, some knows??? Give a right answear, and if you can like a big fat bonus: Give a link to all games you can play (if you can).

And: Do you need to fix/buy something like a memory card to PS2 to play it or will it not work if you don't... I mean explain!:shock:

if you have the 20, 60 or 80gb ps3 then u can play ps2 and ps1 games
if u have the 40gb ps3 then u can only play ps1 games

you can create a ps2/ps1 memory card on the hard drive

there is a compatilibily checker on the playstation website

But anyway it's strange it doesn't work but I'm glad for what i have:)

Sony has a website that you can search through titles to see the compatability of PS2 games on PS3. Link below.

So what, can't you just read the box or better yet, who doesn't do research on a product before purchasing. I mean we all know someone or have watched G4, etc to know that only the 20, 60, 80 have BC. be real, u know it in your soul.

Yeah it does say right on the box of the 40GB. "This system is not compatible with Playstation 2 software".

DEpending on when the came was made most games should play on those PS3 that have the capability to do so.

i THINK U NEED TO THINK A LITTLE BIT MORE

Japanese/North American 20GB and 60GB models: 99.9% backwards compatibility, thanks to the fact that these systems have both a physical Emotion Engine (PS2 CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2 GPU).
European 20/60GB as well as all 80GB models: PS2 BC is somewhere around 80-95%. This drop is a result of the physical Emotion Engine being removed and substituted with a software emulation. (Note that these systems do still have the Graphics Synthesizer though.)
All 40GB models: Zero BC with PS2 games, since the remaining hardware components were removed.
