Hello everybody, I wanted to know something! I really like collecting videogames(but this passion is starting to fade away, not to play game but finding older games) I'm at this point that I really want to try the ps1 and ps2 jrpg Library (not to much a jrpg guy, but I did enjoy fire emblem on DS and 3DS and wanted to try other games). I've already got every final fantasy, legend of dragoon, chrono cross, vandal hearts, azure dreams, suikoden 1 and many other on ps2

And now i'm wondering if those next titles are Worth buying and playing for a newbi in this genre( not really collecting purposes now)

Ps1:Valkyrie profile, suikoden 2, breath of fire (3,4), tales of destiny(1,2), vandal hearts 2, xenogears, dragon warrior 7

Ps2: disgaea(1,2), .hack part 3, dragon warrior 8, drakengard 2, shaodw hearts(1,2,3), suikoden(3,4,5)

Thank for your help!:)

@boowtf22: I highly recommend the Shadow Hearts series, although I will admit, the atmosphere is a bit dark, but the story is deep, and the gameplay is challenging. Regarding Suikoden, I recommend 3 and 5; 3 in particular was quite good, 4 leaves you wanting more, but of course this is my personal opinion and the overall experience for you could be totally different. Valkryie Profile is a classic, so I highly recommend it. Breath of Fire; 3 was amazing, 4 to me was not as engrossing or memorable. My most highly recommended game on your list would be Xenogears, that game will always be on my top 5 greatest ps1 games of all time. Hope this helps ;)

Is dragon quest/dragon warrior good? Nobody really seems to mention those?

Dragon Quest 8 is the best RPG I have ever played, and in my mind, no other RPG on the PS2 came close.

But that's just my opinion.

I love classic, turn based, fantasy-based JRPGs. And the game was drawn by Akira Toriyama, an absolute graphical and musical masterpiece with original British voices (Which were VERY well done, may I add).

Why haven't you played it yet, play it now! :D

Since you said you enjoyed Fire Emblem, I highly recommend all the Disgaea games you can get your hands on.

Oh, and yes, Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King is THE BEST JRPG you can play anywere.

You really can't pass any PlayStation device without playing some of the Final Fantasy games. They're a beast when it comes to JRPGs.

Other options for the PS2 are: Mana Khemia and Ar Tonelico

@boowtf22: I am also more of a WRPG fan but I've played and loved a boatload of JRPGs

Ps1:Valkyrie profile, - cool game, too hard/quirky for me

suikoden 2, - haven't started it yet

tales of destiny(1,2), - tried some Tales games, on the PS3 was not into them

vandal hearts 2, - haven't tried it

xenogears, - seems awesome, but I got stuck at some "puzzle" part and the combat is like, kinda confusing

dragon warrior 7 - didn't try it

Ps2: disgaea(1,2), - LOVED first one. But it's way too big/time sink

.hack part 3, - played 1 and 2, boring as all get out but I kept playing

dragon warrior 8, - nope, didnt try it

drakengard 2, - nope, didnt try it

shaodw hearts(1,2,3), - Shadow Hearts 1 is criminally under-rated. Love the game, especially the atmosphere. Shadow Hearts 2 is better gameplay and considered best in series

suikoden(3,4,5) - either played 4 or 5. Found it boring.

VAGRANT STORY - is a must play. Totally unique, challenging, deep

Some of these are repeats but for PS1:

Xenogears
FF 7 through 9

PS2:

Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2
Nocturne was ok but I had some issues with it. These issues were resolved in games like DDD1 and 2 and the Persona games
Persona 3 and 4 (SO AWESOME)
Xenosaga 1 through 3 (kinda sequel to Xenogears and kinda prequel to Xenoblade for Wii)
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time (one of the best Star Ocean games)

There are a -ton- more for both platforms but those are among my favorites.
