When do you think the PlayStation 3 will be discontinued? I still have one and no eighth generation consoles.

Probably up until the end of next year for any first party support besides small updates to the system itself. Third party might actually last for another 2-3 but by no means anywhere near the way it used to be.

The original PlayStation debuted in Dec 4 1994 in Japan. Support for PlayStation 1 lasted until march 2006. PS2 debuted March 2000 in Japan. Support for PlayStation 2 lasted until January 4 2012, PS3 debuted November 11 2006 in Japan.

So the PS3 could last as long as the year 2019. But this is the final year of full support for PS3. Already many publishers are cutting out PS3 ports of new games. Except for annual cash cows such as Call of Duty, Assassin's creed, Fifa and Madden. The PS3 has an install base of 84.4 million worldwide. Which should keep games coming for 1 more year. But developers and Sony are more focused on PlayStation 4. PS3 has been going for 9 years. So I expect a total of 12 years of PS3.

So support for PS3 will drop. This should be the final year of real support for PS3. Then it is only "B" and 'C" lister games. until 2018 the final drops of throwaway games hit PS3. Sports and Just Dance games. until the final Backyard Baseball and dora the explorer kids game. With the final Fifa soccer game hits the console in 2019 along with a "D" listing none Fifa Soccer game lands on PS3 in 2019. A year or 2 before that on-line support ends for PS3.

January or March 2019 Gamespot and IGN will run the Story of the last PlayStation 3 console rolling of the assemble line in Mexico. With the usual PS3 memories stories. PS3 will maybe just barely limp passed the 100 million mark sold worldwide. With 84.4 million sold thus far, PS3 may struggle to reach the 100 million mark. Support is coming to an end for PS3.

So get your PS3 console, but don't expect support to last much longer, You are 9 years late to the PS3 party. The console is still worth playing in 2015.

the last ps2 game ever to release was 2013.

ps3 support will continue to dwindle in the next couple of years until sports games are the only thing releasing on it but for the most part, i think you can enjoy 2 more years with a little bit of aaa releases and jrpgs

Sony supports their consoles for a long time.

You should have until at least 2018-19 based on PS1-PS2 history.
