...But I have a Wii and a 360 at the moment. I play games and watch films on my 360 all the time, when my Wii looks at me longingly in the shadow of my 360. Sure I like my Wii, some of the games I have for it are genius, Excite Truck, for instance is ridiculous fun in my opinion, yet I find myself wanting to sell my Wii and get a PS3 instead, with them being priced so low at the moment, plus, after all, it is a Blu Ray player, which is always nice.

So my question to you guys, the PS3 owners is, would this be the right idea? I'm sure some of you have your opinions about the 360, but that's not what I'm looking to sell here. I'm just wondering whether if I got a PS3 it wouldn't be sat gathering dust like my Wii is at the moment.

As I say I'm not looking to start an epic console gang war, I just figured you guys would be pretty well-informed about the PS3, seeing as you own one.

well, for starters, with a PS3 you get a blu-ray player.... I, myself, between the two would choose the PS3 over the Wii 9 times out of 10. That said, before the Sony crowd rush the thread, I would recommend waiting a couple months at least before making your decision. The PS3 is looking to have an amazing lineup of 2009 exclusives (Heavy Rain, LA Noire, White Knight Chronicles, Infamous, Killzone 2, FFXIII (if it comes out), but the Wii, after a pretty weak, 2008 that basically lived off of 2-3 games, seems to be doing some interesting stuff in early 2009 (House of the Dead, Madworld, No More Heroes sequel (whenever it comes out), the Conduit). You might want to wait a while and get a little more info on these prospective exclusives before making your decision. That said, again, if i were to choose right now, i'd still say go for the PS3.

I don't think this will start a console war at all personally. But, I personally feel that if you really do not want the Wii, then yes, get a PS3, it would not be gathering dust like the Wii with it's exclusives and like you said, it's also a bluray player which is a really nice perk. It seems you like to play your 360 mostly, which is fine, but it won't hurt to get some of those great exclusive games for the PS3. I bought a WIi for the family, but it's still sealed, I really am thinking about just returning it because I have a strong feeling it's just going to be played for 2 months tops and then never used again.

I owned all 3 systems at one point and dropped my wii. There just wasn't enough coming out on it to keep me from scrapping it, or news of anything upcoming that looked good. I was tired of Mario Galaxy and Excitetruck. The wii was great when it came out, I dont know what it was but I lost interest in it and it sat in my living room gather dust for months and I finally cashed it in, i was not dissapointed in myself after I did, I check around for games coming out that I may have wanted on the Wii and couldnt find anything that really floated my boat.

If you enjoyed the Wii's motion controls, you should check out the articles around the web of the PS3 controller coming out eventually (so they say). If it ever truely gets released the PS3 is going to be that much farther advanced. The concept drawings of it look unreal with what its going to be able to do, in the mean time you can enjoy the sixaxis controller, but theres not a ton of games that put it to use, and most that do dont use it the best.

If you loved exitetruck I'd get a PS3 and play Pure if you dont have it on x360. My advice would be sell your Wii.

it simpy boils down to this do you like what the playstation franchise offers or do you prefer nintendos games. At the end of teh day you can get fanboys spouting the wii as a childrens console, but the point is your going to get the same nintendo experience you always get, same thing with the ps3 all sonys major franchises will re-appear on the ps3 at some point. Ask yourself this nintendo vs sony, don't go because one has better graphics or whatever as they are games consoles, which i guess your looking for it to be fun. Personally i have both wii and a ps3, and i prefer the ps3, but that doesn't mean i don't like my wii.

I agree with Valadin. It's the wrong time to get one, unless you desperately want LBP or R2 (LBP2 will come out nxt year probably anyway). But no, I doubt it would collect dust, with Killzone 2, White Knight Cronicles, FF13 Versus, God of War 3 and many others I can't remember that people are going to shout at me about because I missed them out. Anyway, like he (Valadin) said, wait a few months, there'll probably be a Killzone 2 bundles so wait till about Feb, then get it.

You worded your post well in mature way so It should be good. ;)

Speaking from my personal experience, unless you do spend time with Wii or have family members who use it it's a good trade-off. You can trade Wii for a very good price since it's still in high demand and if you have few games for it, you should be able to get 399$ PS3 almost if not free after trading.

It makes no sense to keep Wii unused, it's a good console that someone will find good use at, even more so if you want PS3.

I'd say go for it, you don't lose anything, but gain what you want. ;)

the Wii is fun when groups of people come over and girls LOVE playing the Wii so i woudn't get rid of it if you have some female friends that like to come over.

the PS3 is my gaming console of choice though because it has bluray (which is ridiculously awesome if you like movies...i recommend Wanted, Dark Knight tomorrow, Spider Man trilogy, Pirates of the Carribean tril, Casino Royale, Apacolypto, even Wall E), i can rent movies online, it has a million cool PSN exclusive games and it has pretty much every hot game on the market except Gears of War. every other game on the market that i want to play it has. and it's reliable and won't break down on you (i've had mine since launch with no issues).

plus now you can watch full screen flash videos so if you use hulu.com that's another plus. it's just (in my opinion) the best console available for those and other reasons. but...if you have honeys that come over keep the Wii. they love it. lol.

Thanks for the replies guys, two points to make from them. Mckenna, you were saying that it depends on whether I prefer Playstation franchises or Nintendo franchises, now I love Nintendo franchises like Zelda, No More Heroes (not made by Nintendo I know, but an exclusive nonetheless), Mario etc. As for Sony's franchises, the only two I know I like are Tekken and Metal Gear Solid, but having played Uncharted Drake's Fortune and Heavenly Sword I am totally converted (having previously dismissed the PS3 on no good reason apart from fanboyishness).

The main thing I suppose that I'm sceptical about with the Wii is that I can't see Nintendo bringing out any A-grade titles in the next year, I mean, what has there Christmas line-up been? An Animal Crossing port? Wii Music? I mean score. Plus I'm getting fed up of good franchises being overly simplified for casual gamers, but that's another story.

So on that front, in terms of franchises I would have to say Nintendo. However, what are the chances they'll bring out another Zelda game in 2009 for instance?

Another thing, I said before that one of the plus points of the PS3 is that it's a Blu Ray player, how good is Blu Ray in reality? None of my friends with PS3s have any Blu Ray movies so I've never been able to make a judgement, because if they're not that much of a step up, Blu Ray movies may be something I never make the jump to, especially seeing as I've just discovered the genius of Windows Media Centre letting me stream videos to my Xbox.

Upcoming non-casual Wii games: Punch Out (Ninty), Sin and Punishment 2 (Ninty), Tenchu 4, Rune Factory, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Little King's Story, MadWorld, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers, The Conduit, Arc Rise Fantasia, Monster Hunter, Sonic and the Black Knight, Cursed Mountain, House of Dead: Overkill, Muramasa, No More Heroes 2, Fatal Frame IV....

Well, Ninty has announced that they're bringing another Zelda game to Wii and they've been working on it for two years now... so 2009 is a possibility. 2010 at the latest. Really? You're asking questions about the Wii on the PS3 forum board? Since you're comparing two consoles, this thread belongs in System Wars.

yeah, i know that nintendos schedule may not be the same as it once was with the likes of rare on their side were the gap was filled with donkey kong, banjo and star fox. They will release their main franchises though, but i know what you mean by it being uncertain. The ps has some great franchises such as god of war, and the team ico games. I doubt you would be dissapointed by whats on offer, and it differs enough to warrant a purchase along side a 360. The bluray player is really good, and the ps3 is the best bluray player you can buy. As long as you've got a reasonable hdtv, you should see a definite difference in the quality of the movies, like i recently watched the dark knight and the imax sequences looked insane. It's whether you think it's worth the money over dvds, every comparison i've seen has stated bluray is worth it over upscaling dvd players, but it depends on the person. If your not a big tv watcher and have no real problem with watching like streamed movies online, and see their quality as fine, then you might not be that impressed by what bluray offers.

Yes, Blu Ray is a plus if you have all the matching parts to make it work. For example, you will need a 1080 HD ready HDMI TV (40 inches or bigger, any smaller you will not be able to tell the difference, don't let anyone tell you otherwise cus they're full of sh!t). LCD is the best in my opinion, you will also need an HDMI cable for the picture. a cheap one at monoprice 1.3a (i think that's what it's called) will due just fine. Otherwise getting a playstation 3 because of the blu ray isnt worth it, and you won't really get that "blu ray" quality that they show on tv, or in any electronic store. I, myself, use my playstation for everything. It's a 60 gig model so i can play my ps2 games on it as well (since i was a late playstation bloomer) I have stored DivX files on there, i have pictures on there, my music for when i'm working out or cleaning, i download psn games, i play regular games, i use it to browse the internet when my laptop is messin' up, basically i use it for everything except for remote play (i have no clue what that even is). So for me? My playstation is totally worth it. Just think about it like this, what are you going to use it for? will it be worth it (for you)?

lol to the guy above you will tell a difference on smaller tv's you might not be able to tell a difference between 720 and 1080 on a small tv, but you will definitely see a improvement over an sd pic.

Fair point ClicketyClick, sorry man.

My next question, how good is the PSN? How are the players/matches? As most people know by now XBL has it's fair share of 10 year olds playing Gears Of War and getting unnecessarily aggressive when you blow their heads off, how does the PSN fair in comparison? Not only in terms of players, but in terms of whether people talk, whether the matches lag etc.

Another aspect of the PSN, I understand it doesn't use Microsoft Points/Wii Points and just lets you pay directly with cash instead of converting into Sony/PSN Points? Are the PSN exclusives like flOw, Pain and Echochrome worth my time considering there are some mighty fine offerings on XBL and Wiiware, even if only the former allows you to trial the games before you buy them.

I'm currently lucky enough to have all 3, but I will say this: The 360 and the PS3 have far more overlap, meaning that getting rid of the 360 instead of the Wii makes more sense. Obviously there are exclusives on the 360 that may make you want to keep it, so that is something you will just have to weigh out. I wanted to get rid of the Wii at one point too, but it looks like 2009 could be a big year for Nintendo fans.

Yes you should, unlike the Wii the PS3 has just had a huge influx of great games this holiday and 2009 is shaping up to be better than 2008 (Which was amazing). While the Wii has what, Punch-Out!! ?

I mean the PS3 has a good handfull of 07 exclusives, amazing 08 exclsuives ( I mean amazing), and great looking 09 to boot. While the Wii just has its 07 titles, and although they're awesome you've probably played them all.

PSN is very good. I dont have 360, so I cant compare it to XBL. I hear many people say it is more relaxed and "mature". It probably is. Lag? I have witnessed some lag here and there. It mostly depends on the game though. I have only played a couple of PSN games that truly lag online. The vast majority hold up very well. Mics? Depending on the game, you might not have a lot of folks with mics. A lot of people that play COD or Socom have mics. Motorstorm is a bit hit or miss. Warhawk and GRAW2 had a lot of people with mics on. Bad Company mic support doesnt work very well for PSN, so no one uses mics in that one. Points? PSN doesnt have points that I know of. I think you can buy PSN cards at Gamestop, etc. They can be used on the PS Store. PSN Games? They have been surprisingly good. There are not as many as on XBL, but what is there seems to be of high quality. Echochrome is a great puzzle game that allows you to build levels and post them online for download. I dont know about Flow. Pain seems to be very popular. Others I have enjoyed are Blast Factor, Super Stardust HD, Super Acrobatic Rocket Powered Battle Cars, Pixel Junk games, Wolf Commando 3, and Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty. I have considered Wipeout HD, but not gotten it yet. Most of the PSN games have some sort of demo you can try, so you know what you are getting into. A word on the Blu-Ray player, it also does HD upscaling. In other words, if your hooked to an HD TV, your old DVD collection will look much better than if you played it off a regular DVD player.

Go for the PS3. I've had a Wii since launch and to this day the only game I play is Wii Sports. I won't sell it, just because I'm not much of a seller/trader of my unused items. If someone put a lock on my PS3 and the only way I could play it was to give my Wii away I'd do it in a heart beat.

I'd seriously wait until 09. There's talk of a ps3 price drop early into next year, god knows it needs it.

Having a PS3 is expensive man, and at times, not very rewarding. There's not a lot of exclusives out, and unlike the good ol' ps2 days, it takes frikin forever for anything good out there on the ps3 to finally drop in price... I personally haven't seen any "greatest hits" deals like I did in the previous system.

So hey, if you got a lot of cash, go for it. Personally I enjoy the Wii, and I only got like 3 games on it so far. And for sure my 360 is stacking up, (like 200$ dollars less then a ps3 with a lot more exclusive games.)

I'm not into the whole "system war" bogus, you gotta be realistic about this stuff... it's expensive man... and the truth is the ps3 is seriously declining this time around so they can't afford to make their system cheaper just yet. Wii and 360 you should probably stay with until a price drops on the ps3 if you wanna be smart about it. Even with selling your wii for like...150 or somewhere around there, you better be prepared to spend 300+ not considering what games you should get that will feed your hunger. (pst, just buy some used at gamestop... I could get like 5 games for less then a full priced at BB)

I used to own both the PS3 and a wii. Honestly, this year sucked to be a wii owner. No good games were released after Brawl back in March.

I sold my wii and ended up buying 5 PS3 games this holiday season and also paid for a Killzone 2 preorder in full.

No regrets here. I loved my wii when it was first released but honestly look how developers have takin advantage of the casual market..

I haven't seen a crappier year of gaming than the wii's 2008 lineup in a long time. Sell it dude.

I don't think this will start a console war at all personally. Flame_Blade88
You'd be surpised. Have you read the news story comments? Every single one is a system war thread, totally ignoring the news story. For the TC a PS3 would be a great purchase. It just keeps getting better. :D
