I got a new PS3, when I insert or eject a disc I hear a slight noise while its inserting or ejecting sounds like maybe it's just the gears turning. And all my games work fine. Just wondering if this is normal?

It sounds like nothing to worry about from what you're describing. Mine also makes gear noises when inserting/ejecting discs.

I'd say it's fine, just like any CD or DVD drive makes sounds

Sounds like it is normal. And i have had an issue with my drive. When i boot up my PS3 sometimes it does not start the game or recongnize there is a disc inside and i have to take it out and put it back in for it to work.

@Myzz617 - that doesn't sound like a good sign - when has it started to do this, was it after a firmware update?

Nope, started happening about a week ago. Actually i did update firmware 2weeks ago. It reads discs 75% of the time but if i power on PS3 and let it sit it does nothing-i eject disc-re-insert takes about 20-30 secs and then starts into game. I suspect the drive is on its way out.

i hate to say it but that sounds like you may want to start sticking some cash back, that way if it does die you can have it fixed or buy a new one ASAP. what moddle ps3 do u have?

lol its the PS3 moving the disc into position and then reading the disc, then when you eject its the PS3 coming out of position through the insertion point, it's all totally normal.
