i never played a Metal Gear game before and i was wondering if i should buy Metal Gear Solide4:Guns of the Patriots??? Can someone tell me more about the mgs series, are there good??? and how is the gameplay???
MGS series is extremely story driven and MGS4 is last in the chapter of the MGS franchises. If you want to follow the story then atleast play MGS2 because MGS4 follows on from MGS2. If you get confused from MGS2 ( you will ) then play MGS3 to shed more light on MGS universe.
All in all I would say that regardless of playing the previous MGS games you should definitely pick up MGS4 as it will truly be a magificent game and a benchmark this gen.
The gameplay is stealth but not hardcore stealth like the splinter cell series. If you get caught you can fight your way out easily. The story in the series is amazing, though MGS2 confused many people. If i were you and you were serious about getting 4 you should play through the old ones or just find a site that will provide a good background on the story because 4 is all about closing the story and tieing up loose ends that hae been leaving fans hanging. And MGO was awesome on the ps2 so now that they are bringing it back you will have plenty of fun online after your done the game.
you should play mgs, mgs2 and mgs3 though before you get it...otherwise you won't know what the hell is going on...i mean there are some people who have played all three and STILL don't understand whats going on

Get metal gear soild 4 it going to be great but make sure you buy mgs2 and mgs3 but mgs1 will be hard to get since it was release on the ps1 but if you have a gamecube you be able to get mgs1 twin snakes
i was in the same boat as you wasn't sure if i should get it or not since i didn't like mgs2 so i got a copy of mgs3 subsistence and didn't care much for it either. i'd at least try the other games before you make a decision.
You will definitley hav to play the previous MGS games or atleast 2 and 3 to understand the 4th one. I myself gav up my ps3 for a week to play Sons of Liberty. I bought my ps3 for the sole reason to play MGS4
