Is This A Bad Thing? (MGS4)

There's all this hype about MGS and i've never played any of the games nor know the plot.

i am an avid gamer but im only 13, so the first MGS was probobaly released like,what..., 8 years ago?

Tell me if its worth buying MGS4 under the condition that i dont know anything or just read a h*** of alot of stuff?

im not worried i just was wondering if i'd be lost .
