Leave it on standby. Usually with every electronic device it's better to have it on standby then unplugging and replugging it

i leave mine on standby all the time. The only time that i unplug it is when i go on vacation or during a lighting storm.

For Christ's sake don't leave your PS3 on standby - If it becomes self-aware it could take over the world!

Have you never seen the Terminator movies?

Well they say it's better for the environment if it's completely turned off, but since global warming is a fraud I doubt it matters much. Besides, I have my console set to switch on when I'm sleeping and download..

Iv left mine on standby since i got it nearly a year ago and its fine. I mean they suggest you unplug it for the environment but who can be bothered to do that? Not me!

I leave my 60 gig on 24/7 and never had a problem after well over three years of doing this. I did replace the thermal paste a couple of months ago with a much better thermal paste that helped the cooling system a little more than it was working before.

The PS3 slim only has a standby button, no power button on the back, so I'm assuming that that's Sony's way of telling you to keep the system on Standby when you're not using it, as opposed to shutting it completely off.

Why not just turn it off then turn it on when you want to play?

turn it off how? standby is turning it off unless you have an older model with the switch on the back and your turning it off that way. any ways thats tottally different than unplugging it.

I leave mine on 24/7. As long as the ventilation is good, you're fine. There is a school of thought that keeping a piece of solid state electronics at a constant temp instead of the unit heating up and cooling down again will make the machine happier over the long-run, as the expansion and rarifaction of a circuit is what actually wears the components out faster.

no thats not true. the manual that come with the ps3 slim states clearly that igf the system is not to be used for a long time to unplug it from the wall. as others have said,if your going to be playing every day or every other day then just put it in stand by mod. if your not expecting to play it for a few days or weeks you can unplug it.

Considering that it was designed to stay in standby mode when not in use....

Treat it as you would your computer. I haven't actually shut off my laptop in over an year--and the only reason I turn my desktop off is because the noise would drive me crazy. (Well, I don't actually turn it off, just let it sleep of I'm not downloading anything).

Do you unplug your tv when you turn it off?....of course not. The PS3 is just like your tv, its always in standby mode. I dont see what the big deal is, just leave it plugged in like every other modern electronic device made in the last several years.

My ps3 is ALWAYS on standby if it's not turned on... I don't flip the switch in the back unless I'm taking it somewhere else.

I leave it on standby, although I've never whipped out a killawatt to see how much power it's actually using. With the thing pulling nearly 300 watts at full tilt, it's probably still greedy when off.

That's one reason I leave my system on 24/7. The same theory also works the same way on other machines as well. Think about it have you ever heard a locomotive engine that's not running anywhere when you walk by. Those engines are never shut off and run that way for years without a problem. Less thermal stress is good for anything that creates any kind of heat when in use is the best thing to do.

I have a SLIM now so I don't unplug it. When I had my 80GB, I would flip the switch on the back.
