I'm gonna plunk down some moolah for a PS3 soon. I was wondering if hard drive space is important. I ask this because the 320GB version is like 50 bucks more...

Is that extra space really necesary? How much space does the average game install take up for the PS3. Is the 160GB plenty of space to last me?

yes it is as games take from 1GB to 8GB (GT5 is about 8GB) plus any DLC you might get and Movies you want to get from the store for a PS3 the bigger the HDD the better (i put a 500GB HDD in mine)

Even then, nothings stopping him from uninstalling/deleting some games. I got over 80 games and my 80GB still hold up. Just delete what you don't use, you can install it again whenever you need to.

It really depends on how much stuff you put on there. I've got all my music, a ton of pictures and videos, dozens of game demo's, a TV show and a movie, and all my game installs and saves on there. I'm around 200+ GB used. I paid about $55 for a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500 GB drive, so as long as you're okay with installing it yourself, that's the way to go.

My recommendation is go with the 160GB then if you find it's too small, install your own 500gb hard drive.

You will be paying the same amount of money as buying the 320 gigger.

Depends on what you want on there. I've got only 8 downloaded games on my 80GB with around 150+ save files and data utility files. But that's mainly becuase I delete demos and games I don't like.

Alternatively if you plan on buying a hard drive seperately, ifferent types can improve loading times, just like they do for a PC. My friend bought a very high end 500GB HDD for his and now his ps3 loads a gt5 race in under 5 seconds. And if you've ever played gt5, you'd know how much of an improvement that is!

I would say the 160gb is a good amount of space if your aren't a hardcore gamer. However theres no doubt the game collection will grow and the game installs vary between 500mb to like 8gb and theres DLC if you want to buy it, updates/patches to install among other media (video, music, apps like home). If you think you are going to just buy games and not get add ons or other content then 160gb is a good start and see how you go.

Edit: forgot to mention as I didnt read your whole message haha, if you dont consider $50 a big amount extra to put towards the purchase then I'd recommend just doing that and getting the 320gb and then you know you are covered for a while. If not, go for the 160gb like I said.

i think,if you are stocking a lot of game installation in your hard drive a 250gb can do the job.320gb you need to have like 40 or 50 game installed in your hard drive to be full.but if you download movies or a lot of things that take a lot of drive space like downloading full games in your system.320gb could be nice.but the 250gb are good too.i have 170gb spaces on my hard drive but i am only playing games and have the physical blue ray disk.
