As a big fan of the series, I am loving it. Thus far, it is sounding like the best PoP yet in my opinion. I think it needed to go in a fresh and exciting new direction. The series is due for an overhaul and fresh new character.
In the latest issue of EDGE, there is a whole feature on this latest installment. In addition to the cell-shading mixed together with a more serious artstyle, it is going to be more of an open world game that is also going to have kind of an 'Okami effect' whenever you clear certain portions of the game of evil influence. In that it will go from being dark, filled with foes, and wicked looking, to sunny, beautiful landcapes. And you witness it all happening as you are playing along.
The story is also going to be centered around characters from the oldest of old Persian religions....Zoroastrianism. You will be serving the god Ahura Mazda in an attempt to help stop/defeat who is the Zoroastrian equivalent of the christian devil....Ahriman. Ahriman has been freed from the eternal prison that Ahura Mazda had imprisoned him in long ago and must be stopped before the world is consumed in eternal darkness sort of thing.
The usual hero saves the world from evil kind of deal, yes, but it definitely sounds as if it is being done with style, and unique flare. Not to mention that the choice of material is just cool as hell if you ask me. Anyway, I cannot wait, personally.
