I put the disc in and i thought it would play normally like a dvd would. Nothing shows up. The circle loading thing appears in the corner, then it goes away and nothing happens. I don't know if i have to change any of the settings on the BD/DVD part on the PS3.

A new video item should show up in the video menu.

On your Xross media bar, go to videos and you should see a blue disc (BD-rom), click X.

I think he turned off the automatic play feature. all you gotta do is select the BD from the video section.

Not familiar with that film and can't find it on bluray.com. The reason I asked is cause I couldn't figure out how to play "Hard Boiled" from my Stranglehold disc. Turns out I had to launch it from the game menu.

When it arrived today it was just like the cheap dvd's you get from HMV, just a case a leaflet about blu ray movies and the disc.

Um...I found Ray...it's an HD-DVD. Unfortunately that's the failed format of the competitor, not compatible with Blu-ray players.

It's no problem, sorry you had the mix up. I do hope they'll refund you though as most places are trying to get out of HD-DVD's and not offering returns.

They will play using any output. You just don't get the highest quality if you aren't using HDMI.

I don't think i'm going to try returning it because it was on £3.99 and free postage and packing.

Hi, I was looking up at the questions & answers of the problems of this matter, Just this pass weekend, Sat., I was hooking up my PS3 (60GB), to watch a blu-ray disc, did day & time, wouldn't play, went to BD, did the list, to play disc, a note came on the screen, need some type of software to play the disc. Here's the question: What software is it that it needs to play Blu-ray?

to RailroadBob :

you may need to install the latest PS3 firmware update, some BDs require to connect to the internet (same thing happened to me for Transformers 1, got the menu but when I wanted to play the movie it required to connect to internet but couldn't so it stayed on a loading screen) but they can only if you can connect to PSN which you can only if you have the latest firmware installed

you can also disable the internet connection in the settings menu

All Playstation 3's except series 3000 can play Blu Ray movies. You need to buy an HMDI cable to watch Blu Ray movies. Sony changed this during the last hardware revision. All other PS3 Phat generations 1,2,3 PS3 20/60/60/80/40/80/160 gigers, PS3 Slim 2000's generations 4,5PS3 120/160/250/320 gigers.

But the current 6th Generation PS3 Slims 3000 series PS3 160/320 gigers cannot play Blu Ray movies out of the box using the stock av cables. You got to buy the HMDI cable to view BluRay movies. PS3 games will work as usual, even though they are on Blu Ray disc.

Why Sony change this for the current Playstation 3 is unknown. Except to sell starter packs which include HMDI cable, and extra controller and charge cable.

Sony could at least start including an HMDI in the box instead of those plain old AV cables that had been the same since the first Playstation in 1994.
